Why do people dislike this game?
I don't mean it as in, it's a loop of gameplay etc.

Lethal Company is fun, and I have enjoyed the 6 hours I have in the game - but I don't understand why so many people always comment such negative ♥♥♥♥♥ on the discussions when a new update gets released (if you've seen those comments). Of course, I understand a lot is trolling but why? If it's for points then yeah I guess that makes sense, but you could write a review on the game and get SO many steam points.

My point is, I don't understand the like harassment towards the one developer of the game. People complain about slow updates (it released 2 months ago / only one guy is working on the whole game), the fact that there was no "sale" but normally steam games that have juuust released don't normally go on sale first time around (also its $10 / £8.50), the graphics aren't ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on purpose - reminds me of PS2 art style which is my childhood & i love it.

If anyone can explain to me, without starting an argument, about why people ♥♥♥♥ on this game so much i would appreciate it :p

some haters are pessimists who see a game get popular and think that it'll be just like among us, fun for a while and everyone plays it but looses steam after a couple months

some are just rage baiters, who get off on people thinking they're idiots, which they are

some probably expect ANY game that becomes popular to meet a AAA level standard of quality in all fields and if they see one thing that's not "up to par" they believe the game must be trash (though AAA standard have been dropping drastically)

the game is meant to played with others and some refuse to do that and accuse the dev for ignoring them and making the game wrong

probably more reasons but that's what i could think off top of my head

Personally a lot of it boils down to "If I can't have fun, no one else can."
And a tremendous amount of jealousy that people will lash out at anything, even things unrelated like the dev's hobbies.

Virtually any early access indie game, whether it be Ravenfield, Brick rigs (Tabs when it was in early access, it all stopped when it got fully released.) They just like taking the free jester awards while they wait and hurt the game they may or may not like. and if they do it's one heck-of-a way to help the development process (sarcastic)

People think hating popular stuff makes them interesting. It doesn't.

The main issue with the negativity stems from the fact steam awards reward trolls like that because users give clown awards. If people stopped giving clowns to bait topics, the negativity would curb because the behavior wouldn't have a reward. I'm going to say there's more "bait" than real complaint topics in most cases, but by that I just mean more than half.

Now, let me pose a question. If you could get the functional equivalent of spending 2,000$ on steam in points for making a single discussion thread, would you do it?

duh of course, but i feel like it just floods the discussions which could be useful to the dev lol

They hate it because they can let people have fun XD

Most of what I've seen has mostly talked about how it leans heavily on RNG and community stuff but its community is lacking in a lot of ways partly due to its poplar status

i dislike the game game because its boring at its core, its literally just "try die repeat" and many other games do this better for free or half the price. The selling point is "its fun with friends" and that doesn't mean the game is good. anything can be fun with friends. the game is pretty bare bones game play wise. its "walk from ship to area, walk around even more for randomly spawned loot, get one shot by any thing, and do it again regardless of failure or not. People are acting like this game invented proximity chat. and they are so traumatized by bad AAA games that when they see something decent they think its a godsend. Its just a fad game that is only alive cause some clips went viral, its a trend and youtubers are milking it for every drop of content they can get.

ever heard of the shovel item? if you actually played the game you'd know that there's an item known as the shovel, sold from the shop for a cheap 30 credits (usually 15 at the start of most runs), that can defend against most basic monsters (and even some of the more difficult ones) if you know how to use it right. if you're complaining about constantly getting one shot and saying that it's "too difficult" then just simply

get good

also another thing, the game is funner with friends because even though it didnt invent proximity chat or whatever, it takes it and uses it in a hilarious way, and that effect is amplified while playing with friends.

popular thing = bad is unfortunately a rather common mentality among people.

Not sure for why others don't like it, but here are some reasons I dislike it initially. Just bought it today (upon recommendation from a friend and after watching a few vids/shorts on YT) and am unsure if I'm going to keep it, based on what I've seen, definitely doesn't seem like my style of game.

1) No Tutorial or Intro - Been playing a few hours and still don't really know what the point of what/how to do stuff. You get money or die, you can buy stuff, but if you die it all disappears.. nothing appears to be permanent to you or the ship? Nothing to invest in long-term outside each game session? (Is this the type of game where you essentially NEED to watch YT vids to know how to play?)

2) No Story? - Kind of tags with the first issue... what is the ultimate goal for this game? If I put in 1 hour vs. 1000 hours... is there anything to progress/unlock words or see for an ending? Does the world change at all the further along you go? (aside from more/harder enemies?)

3) Level Generation - So far, the maps all look identical and some of the generation doesn't seem to make much sense. Lot of dead ends, stairs to nowhere, ect. (This is a minor annoyance)

4) The Radar/Scanner - Whatever is on the right-click button, really seems very restricted in use. Doesn't have much range and unfortunately is limited for what it detects. Not sure if there's more use to it yet, but I currently HATE this.

5) Essentially mandatory multiplayer? - This isn't a bad thing by itself, but combined with the fact I have no idea wtf is going on is frustrating because I hate dragging others down. Thankfully have largely played with friends, but I would be terrified of going into some of these public lobbies/groups at this stage.

6) Graphics - PS2 style (which I like) and it looks pretty decent on yt vids...but man, it looks horrible on my PC by comparison. Just blocky, dark and fuzzy. (Despite brightness turned up 100%) I normally don't like to complain about graphics if the gameplay is good... but I guess I'm complaining because there's very few positives about the gameplay.

7) Gameplay - I normally don't like gameplay loop games like this, especially where there isn't anything to build/level up on outside. Just has an unfulfilling type feeling as a result. The mechanics seem to be pretty bare - pick up, put down, jump, sprint, avoid stuff... hope you don't lose a flashlight. No destructive/breakdown mechanics for scrap, no puzzles, no uniform upgrades (helmet flashlight, chest radio, ect) to free a storage spot, ect.

I'm not sure what I really expected out of this and am sure some of this is my own ignorance to the game. (as I just started). Guess I had hopped it would be something like L4D2 for chaos and fun with a combination of Planet Crafter for the scavenging. Feel free to flame away, but those are my initial thoughts/feelings upon playing so far.

Just to run off your thoughts (ones I can answer anyway):

1) I feel like MAYBE there will be a tutorial in future updates, but this game is of course, early access so everything is likely to change. Although, I feel as if you could go in blind and play. I mean, it's what I did and I really enjoy the game. But everyone plays differently. If you have a friend who's played (ik you've played already) just get them to run the basics to you without spoilers, no talk about any... danger. It's what I did for my husband lol

2) As the game is in early access, I believe a story will come to. There is a story, but not "prominent". You have to, while exploring these moons, discover the tapes left. There's a code word on the ship (no spoiling where, I actually didn't find it for a while but that's because I wasn't lookin haha) that you can input into the terminal!. I expect that the guy whos made this game (he's the only developer) will add way more story, and I think it'll be fun to uncover. I do expect this game to have a story but seeing as it's been released for two (ish) months, there is of course a lot to do for the game.

3) I agree with the level generation, The only maps that differ (internally) are rend and titan I believe - which you have to pay to access mind you. If you ever want a new interior for a temporary use while the games being updated, you can download mods which can give you lots of new moons + I know theres an interior SCP map which can happen on any moon.

4) I think the reason the scanner is small is just because it's on our body, and because the company is a little scummy, I don't really think that they care too much about an upgrade to it. I do not really use it, only when I am inside the building as then I can scan for monsters and loot nearby.

5) I agree with this basically multiplayer thing, I would love it if I could play solo but choose how "difficult" it could be! There's of course mods which you can change settings like starting money and how many days you get for the profit quota etc, I know it seems like mods are what are running this game - but it's because the game is in early access and there are so many people who want to play this game that they create mods to add stuff in hopes that soon it will be implemented into the game!

6) I love the PS2 graphics, it's what I grew up on & I kind of see your point but I wouldn't say mine is far off from videos. I'm not really sure why and I hope that there's a little update to it. It could also be your graphics card that's having to process the textures.

7) For uniform upgrades, get mods. There's flashlight & walkie-talkie slot mods for that which are very useful. As I have said previously, this game is bare bones, so I would say expect updates where it's fleshed out a little.

I don't expect anyone to flame you, as you actually have criticism around the game which a lot of the people ho are jester don't. Your criticism is what will help improve a game!
I think if people are not enjoying it in the current state, to just uninstall and give it a while. The game is just released, and in current state it does need work. When it's been a couple months it might have been more fleshed out, with more detail etc. Let's hope anyway - that one dev has a lot of work on his hands haha.
