I dont know exactly how it works but being in the ship and never looking at her seems to not set her off.
If you're outside or inside the facility though, good luck.
There is one thing to mention though, when she starts chasing to kill, you can run away from her and she will eventually go back to her stalking mode.
Needless to say that having to deal with her takes a lot of your attention and combined with other monsters means you will most certaintly make a mistake at some point and be ended by her or the other monsters.
Our group tends to have the one with the girl hiding away at the ship being the terminal person so that they dont end up getting killed so that the problem doesnt spread to other players.
Ideally making sure the person who is haunted doesnt take too many risks and gets back to the ship sooner than the others so they can stay safe, else everyone else in the maze is going to suffer if they have the girl after them when surrounded by like 10 other things.
Your job inside the facility is pretty much done.
On the contrary though, she's relatively easy to run away from as she's not that fast.
Most of the time she doesn't even end up killing me and even if she does I usually haul out a decent amount of scrap by then anyway instead of doing nothing in the ship. Just try to avoid looking at her and if she chases drop your heavy stuff and run until she stops.
You should only play it safe when needed such as if there's only 2 people left and you're worried about a wipe. If it's the beginning of a run on Titan or something and you're already haunted I wouldn't worry about it.
Being overly paranoid and just AFKing in the ship the second you learn you're haunted is a very boring solution imo.
The ghost cannot spawn if your back is not reachable.
In singleplayer however, you're safe until you've seen the ghost girl twice, after that, high tail it and leave the moon.
