Is it even possible to hide from Thumpers?
Doesn't seem to matter what I do, they always patrol / path to where I'm at and will spot me even if I'm hiding around corners, down stairs, etc.

They're supposed to be deaf so I dunno... maybe it's their sense of smell?

They are deaf, but if you have a line of sight, they will attack you, so "hiding" doesnt really work if they ever spot you.

Well... They don't have line of sight and are still going up / down stairs and around walls to get to me (before they've even spotted me.)

I have not once successfully evaded a Thumper. Gotten away from them after running, sure, but not sneaking past or not being spotted.

Their vision cone is quite narrow, but they are very hard to get away from if you're seen even once rn.

Next patch is reworking them to be much less maneuverable and possible to juke, so they'll be a lot more fair then.

It's best not to "hide" and to run using turns to your advantage as they can't turn as fast.
But yes they are deaf and as far as I am aware currently no monster uses any smell mechanics, this includes eyeless dogs.

to get away from the thumper and to kill it you must get onto a railing (without falling to your pending demise) have a shovel and hit it until it dies. if you do not have a shovel get onto a railing until you can bait your friend :steamhappy:

That doesn't work anymore.

As someone else said, Thumpers are deaf. They're also very slow when turning corners, so if you can stay out of line of sight and take a lot of turns, they'll eventually lose track of you. On one occasion, I ran into a room and hid in a corner, and when the Thumper came in, it looked around, didn't see me, and decided to leave. So, it is definitely possible to evade them, but I wouldn't bank on them magically forgetting where you are and deciding to stop pursuit.
