Perfect Giant Nerf
I think we can all agree that giants are very obnoxious at times. Giants have 0 weaknesses, other than being able to be stunned for about 4 seconds, and can't reach inside small spaces which barely helps other being inside the ship. Other than that, giants are a huge problem because they're fast, camp the ship and facility exits when they spot you, un-killable, and can see you from across the map.

Buuuuttt, I also think giants are important. Eyeless dogs, and baboon Hawks are very easy to maneuver around, and have clear weaknesses (we don't talk about the worm, hes god). The giants give balance to that by being very powerful, but just a little too much. It also doesn't bode well that giants can see you, but you can't see them in the dark when further away, Which I think is the major issue here. Not being able to tell if a giant is starring your direction, then all of a sudden it is charging you is very annoying.

I think the perfect Nerf to the giant, without it being a complete push over, is something to alert you when a giant has you in its sites. For example, A giant spots you at rend or dine, and everything is covered in a snow storm, and you can't even tell its looking at you, and all of a sudden there's some sort of eerie noise/distortion that is playing (but you still can't tell where hes looking at your from), you then run to take cover, and when you you're at a good spot/angle where it can't see you, it stops or fades away fast, and the giant goes back to minding its business.

And a good explanation for this would be since the giants eyes are so powerful, they radiate some sort of energy which messes with your head, which makes you hear the sounds.

I believe this would fix a lot of the problems people have with giants. Since giants take about 5 seconds to start charging you after spotting you, being able to know a giant is starring at you in the dark with sound que's would you let you know that you're spotted and you need to get out of it's sight, and get the correct angle of cover until the weird noises stop all within the 5 second window it gives you to do so.

Any thoughts?

You already get the fear screen filter when a giant starts targeting you. You'd think that some extra preliminary warning might help, but according to the wiki by then it's usually too late. Moving at all in the giant's line of sight instantly alerts it.

I think a better nerf would be to require it to take a little more time to lock on, giving you a chance to get to cover.

A sort of "Terror Meter" similar to the old Amnesia games could work quite well for them. It would give you audible feedback that the giant is seeing you. On top of that, it would be nice if it would take longer for them to spot you, especially further away.

Either that, or have the Giants be unable to see you when you stand still. We already have the Worm as something that is a major trouble when you are trying to sneak past the dogs, so being forced to literally not move an inch or risk being spotted by the giant could help. At least, from further away.

Hmm that's weird, I coulda sworn giants stare at you a bit until you hide behind a tree or something. I've had many instances of giants looking at me, and i just hide, and they move on. And I also get the fear screen when they start charging but never when they look at me from my experience.

They can only see so far, but according to the wiki they spot you instantly if you're standing or moving. Only by crouching and holding still can you avoid being detected.

Just make the giants super dumb. If you break a line of sight when being chased, they should instantly forget you exist. There's a reason giants show up in the forest.

I dont know if the wiki can really be trusted. Last I watched a video about the exact mechanics of the giant, standing and moving only accelerate how fast they can see you, so if you are crouched and stationary, it takes longer, but they will still eventually spot you.

So what does that mean? Well you can't just be crouched and stationary and expect it to work, you have to move when in line of sight, but that makes it much easier for them to spot you.

What I havent tried is running behind cover and testing how long they can still see me for when I break line of sight, that might work.

They show up on some of the desert maps as well as the paid Tier 3 moons as well.

Los breakers kinda work, but you have to have a decent distance before you hide behind stuff.

Future Update 47 is supposed to make giants not camp the ship (although they would still wander closely).
Currently, you can easily dodge giants if you see them from a distance (maps without blizzard/fog weather) - just don't get into their direct possible sight (take short peeks from behind a tree/rock), wait a bit until they would go further from your path to the ship then leg it.
Blind dogs are the most annoying thing in the game though as they're impossible to avoid (outside - easy to dodge, but they always tend to climb into the ship).
