In VRChat (my main game I play), there is a game called "Terrors of Nowhere", it's literally just running away from monsters for 3 minutes, monsters that can usually outrun you so you may not even live, then rinse and repeat. Lots of different monsters and maps but the concept stays the same. A lot of people got really addicted to it, where as others fail to see the point of it.
Lethal seems to be like that too, for some, always running in and seeing others getting chased by monsters is the most fun they've ever had playing a coop game, for others, especially solo players, there is no appeal to it as the gameplay loop is very basic with nothing to work towards.
And it's fun to learn how to communicate, interpret the radar, and finding out strategies and tidbits of knowledge on how to handle the game gradually.
There's something very entertaining about the reactions of crewmates through the limited range chat (if you are playing without in game chat, you're not playing the game properly) and walkies, and the freedom and variety in how to tackle the objective, gathering scraps. You can all go in, or have someone stay in the ship as a guide and "brain" of operation, creating an asymetrical dynamic in the gameplay that is both unique, cool and allows accessibility for all kind of players. The entities have for the most part good design or well designed AI that are actually engaging to play around.
I'll have to admit however that the model for the nutcracker, and especially the ghost girl, are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible and completely ruin their scariness/immersiveness, especially the ghost girl
The game 100% deserves its fame, but part of it is that the game is very stream/LP friendly, so it got massive attention from content creators online.
TL;DR them haters got crap tastes
Twitter moment lmao
