It is safe to mod the game?
I would like to put the mod which allows me to have a dedicated button for the flashlight and the one that gives me more emotes.
Also, how would it work if I would like to play with vanilla players/lobbies?

I heard from somewhere that newly uploaded mods might be dangerous / malware. In general though, modding the game is as safe as modding any other game. Modding Lethal isn't any safer or more dangerous than modding any other game that doesn't officially support it.

I play modded as well and we put together out modlist before this became an issue so we're safe. I would also recommend using r2modman for creating modlists and updating mods. Mods get updated VERY often, so doing it manually is not recommended. Here's a link:
https://thunderstore.io/package/ebkr/r2modman/

Do not use the default Thunderstore Mod Manager, as that comes with Overwolf, which is spyware.

As for playing together with Vanilla players, I haven't tested it yet, but in general, unless you install client side mods, playing with other players who do not have those mods will not work. Adding more emotes requires animations, as such only people with the mod would see the animation. Don't know about the Flashlight.

In general, mods that ADD content in any way will not work. Mods that only CHANGE the look of EXISTING content should technically be fine.

I see, if I can't play with vanilla players, which I guess are the majority, I will not mod the game then.
If we take in the consideration that it's not safe, then all the more to not doing so.
Thank you!

It's safe if you manage to do it in 3 days, otherwise you're dead

the above is fearmongering.
mods go through virus checks before uploads on thunderstore.
the overwhelming majority of mods are safe and the community can view the code changes.

you are falling victim to fearmongering
Whoever told this guy modding isnt save can you please stop spreading missinformation. Thunderstorre is fine.

So it is safe!
I was wondering then why everyone used some kind of mods.
So then, how does it works with vanilla players/lobbies?
Can I join them if I have a modded game and they have not?
And how's lobbies between modded games works?
Do we need to have exactly the same mods ?

You can use some mods with vanilla. Some require others to have the mod installed. Usually its listed on the mod's page if it is required by everyone or not.

Zeekers is atm updating the game to feature tags so modded lobbies and vanilla lobbies can be searched cleanly. Right now its just mixed bag of modded and vanilla lobbies in the browser.

Like I have said, I use modded myself and like I have also said, modding Lethal Company isn't any safer or more dangerous than modding any other game. I never stated that it was outright unsafe, nor have claimed the source reliable.

Still, I would recommend Overwolf as it has a nasty reputation. I can vouch for r2modman though, fantastic program and you can export your entire modlist as a single file for others to import, making it very easy use in groups.

If your source aint reliable, then dont post it. People overreact that showing ads in an app acts as spyware, and aalso the addition that OW bought stuff like Curseforge (Ya know, the biggest provider of mods for WoW) yet its completely fine.....

I am not sure where your 'friend' got sources from but I can tell rn that he's missinformed or blatantly lieing or just joining the bandwagon of fear mongering people that overreact to everything.

Nah, modding is dangerous.
Little men from your computer will crawl out and beat you to death if you ever mod any game. /j

There is always a risk involved, so yes, I will post it, and I'm not going to have someone tell me what to do~ Sorry~

EDIT: People here are more interested in being aggressive, starting fights, starting drama with me, rather than giving a civil and helpful response. This is really off-putting behaviour, and while you do have a point, the way you present it is entirely not okay and so I will suit myself and hide your replies from my screen.

There are good arguments to be made here, but not like that.

My computer was hacked the other day due to a mod on thunderstore, there are very legitimate concerns of viruses
