Bunker spider hitbox

So I was playing by myself to see how far I could get and on the third day I had a bunker spider attack me while i had a shovel, and I swear I should've hit him around 7 times but the game made it so I only hit him around 4 times. Do I just suck at this game or is anybody else struggling with it's hitbox?

Walls, Pipes, Doorframes can eat your shovel hits.

You have to aim a lot lower than you'd expect for most enemies, tbh. Also, as the other poster said, ideally you need open space for the shovel hitbox to not collide with anything else.
