As far as stuff being developed in the future, who knows, but you can look into mods like lethal progression and lategame upgrades.
Mods will def help you but I don't know if there's any current plans for it, though I'd imagine he'd consider it.
I only usually use mods after I experience the game itself fully. Having to use mods to have a game at all doesn't really scream good game.
Hopefully after some wait time there will be actually a game I can play, I guess.
