Progression system?
Is there a progression system or anything to aim for in the game? I like being motivated with goals even if its something as simple as cosmetic skins, etc. What is the end game?

The base game doesn't have much of this, but you can play for hours and get ship upgrades and such to a certain extent to get to the "late-game." The end game revolves around going to the three end-game moons (which cost on average about $500 in-game currency to go to) until you all end up getting killed.

There are mods which add more progression. For example - mods that add more items, more ship upgrades, and so on. I personally use a mod that adds a bunch of different suit colors to the game you can purchase from the store, which is nice. There's a big mod which adds late-game upgrades which are very expensive to buy all of, but unfortunately they are massively overpowered and so I wouldn't recommend that mod for balanced game-play unless you are playing with mods that also make the game more difficult (like Brutal Company).

This game is more about the minute to minute experience than trying to progress, anyway. There's a mod somewhere I saw that adds some minor RPG elements, but such things are very limited at this point. We might see more at some point, but for now this game isn't really conducive to playing really long-term - even with mods, within a few hours of playtime you can see basically everything there is to see. But it still can remain fun even when you restart.

Wow, that was really detailed and exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply so thoughtfully :)

There is nothing permanent other than the bestiary, which I assume no one really cares about. Really sad that the suit cosmetics don't stay permanently.

Edit: And your player "rank", which I forgot about, since it resets for seemingly no reason at times.
