You were in the game long enough to put the nut cracker in chase mode as well as spawn a jester, who requires atleast 10-20 seconds following someone to trigger.

This is not "instantly." Hell the nutcracker reloaded before been alerted.

NutCracker is actually really easy to avoid. He is blind while roaming and he can't see you in the scan mode if you are standing still.
