For anyone having this issue, I managed to fix it when I tried opening the steam overlay. Hope that helps someone

Also, a separate issue that happened where the interact button wasn't working even when I changed the binding from the 'E' key was I believe due to having caps lock on.

same exact problem I tried run as administrator, that didnt work. Turned off and on steam overlay nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled it worked but then stopped working and is now a permanent problem
