Right now with jumping on the rails you have a chance to live and kill monster to keep going. Not every rail is safe or possible to jump onto because of the pipes on the roof that can spawn. The scary part is panicking to jump onto a rail and you can't get up as monster charges you. Or you can't find a spot while trying to get away. Or you overshoot your jump and fall to your death. The game is unforgiving and that "cheese" or cheat is only way to live in a ruff situation.
Last night I had 2 coil heads on me, then a thumper spawned at vent 10 feet behind them. If I didn't back up and blindly jump onto the rail behind me I would of been instantly steam rolled by the thumper instead of beating it to death while on the rail while also watching the coils so they don't move closer.
Once the dev's balance damage, hp, and some way to heal then it will be fair to patch out the rail camping. Or they can leave it in and just make sure there is less rails to hop on or a monster that can reach you on the rails, only allowing some monsters to be stopped by rail.
It's less the tactic itself and more the mentality of the people in here justifying it's use, care more about "gaming" the game instead of just having fun playing it.
I wouldn't consider save scumming and item duping sweaty, it's just straight up loser behaviour
As the others said, some monsters are straight up unavoidable and the game straight up tells you to use obstacles to avoid some of them, including rails. Therefor it should remain the way it is. Let’s also account for that carrying a weapon makes you lose a slot, and its also not a guarantee you’ll make it to the rail to begin with. I do agree that people who don’t even bother immersing themselves in the experience and meta strat all the time are some of the most boring players in existence.
The game tries to be a horror game at the end of the day, monsters being unavoidable is by design, the people whining that they cant go ape mode 1v1ing every enemy and saying they'll continue to cheese the game until the dev makes it so they can come of as not fun people to play with to me.
Yes they can be boring and not fun to play with, it is true. Especially when you do something dumb and die early on and are forced to watch them do everything themselves and win without you. You rather drag the whole team down to your "skill level" and make everyone die and lose at same time so you can avoid taking a hit to your ego. Expecting people to not try anything new or experiment with new strategies. Deciding that the only plan is yolo and slam your head into the wall over and over until you lose the rest of your brain cells rather then think and plan something out in a survival horror situation. Just play solo if you can't handle people with different skills that far exceed yours and stop complaining that someone better then you exists. It's quite pathetic.
In the real world there is always someone better then you at something, sometimes the only way to compete is to run the meta or try something new. Or you can just cry on the forums "everyone else is just doing the meta and its so boring" and get left behind as you deserve. You people are legit those old timers that say back in my day before we had pen and pencils (meta) we had chalkboard and white chalk (no skill and yolo). Now these days kids got the pens and pencils and write everything on paper (meta strategies).
Thats not the point. Enemies being able to kill you from near anywhere on a roguelike in one shot is a very precarious balance. As I’ve mentioned, I rarely carry a weapon, even most pugs dont, and it doesn’t necessarily slow me down. If anything it only makes things quicker - you also have to remember theres several straight up unkillable enemies and some other organics who have various methods to escape from them. So what makes those tactics any different? The fact the rail is intended isn’t the issue - its with meta sweat lords making the game unfun. So communicate with your team if a shovel man camping rails is rreally that annoying.
Ideally you'd want monsters that are threatening yet are able to be dealt with without the need to stand on a rail to avoid dying
Also tell me you played rimworld w/o save scum, please XD
Cry more mate, my first comment on here was quite literally me saying I'm glad I only play this with my friends, I'm not sandbagging anybody, you can keep writing made up scenarios about how skilless I am if that helps you cope, I'll keep actually engaging with the game and still making it to high quotas instead of cheesing it every chance I get, I wonder whos actually showing more skill in this scenario.
