What are the log tapes?
As the title says I wonder what those are, do they do anything helpful? Are they "world based" meaning do I have to collect all of them on every server I play on or are they player found and saved?

Nothing of use, just lore that you can read at the terminal. There is one in each moon, including the company moon.

Like the guy before, they are just collectables.

I think they are saved to the save file of the host, as I always lose them upon joining new servers.
