1) Hilarious VOIP situations (underwater bubble talk, face-hug muffled talk, etc).
2) Simple objectives (get loot, get it out).
3) Difficult overall (you die, a lot, and few will break 3k quota).
You just grab some friends, go in, get scared, and try to beat your previous high score, all while laughing at their misfortune, or your own. It's a niche that, surprisingly, is very missed in today's gaming sphere- which is why it's so popular, and everyone is playing it.
The release schedule for games coming out at the moment is dry as hell, so an Indie Game blowing up is kinda the only thing that could have happened. If not Lethal Company, some other game would have become popular.
And, like most other indie games that blew up, it might just fizzle out and become forgotten in a month or two. Unless the developers make some crazy updates to hook players back in.
Also, just because you dislike something doesn't mean the majority does. It's not broken and it's not getting "bot views". I don't know why you're throwing hate at something for just becoming popular.
