Fun fact, when me and friends first went to an eclipsed forest planet (I knew what was about to happen) I kept yelling at them 'walkies walkies walkies make sure they are charged and working. ill head out and check for-' then the moment i walked outside the ship I got grabbed and eaten. It was so funny.
I would have prefered a different mechanic, right now it's just a big op Eyeless dog
You can make some decent distance from them by sprinting but if you are carrying literally anything you'll be too slow and if you're not by the ship they will just keep following you wherever you go. They run way faster than the player's walk speed and on a lot of the maps that they spawn on there aren't enough obstructions to hide behind.
I don't know what the easiest/best solution would be but it definitely needs a solution of some kind.
I have had some success using lower elevation and trees to break LoS. Right now I chalk it up to the danger of staying out too late.
I was playing yesterday on Vow and my friend and I just left through the main entrance, a giant immediately spotted us from across the bridge before we even moved and ran over to eat us. We had no choice but to jump down and lure it into the ravine, go through the fire exit and then try to circle round but it was so dangerous and only he made it back after he dropped 2 items.
I just wish getting spotted by one didn't guarantee death unless you're by the ship like I said, or in that very specific scenario on Vow.
Zap gun week 1? Get real it needs a balance. When it's on your ship and you're solo you just literally can't do anything at all.
You'll hear them before you see them, try to spot where they are first while crouching behind cover (Trees, rocks, light pillars etc..), they will have a really hard time noticing you, you can even peek on the sides a bit.
Then if their footstep noise become lower, it means they are walking away, turning their back, having a visual on them is even better, use that moment to advance closer to the ship/entrance into another cover, repeat until you're safe.
With other players there possible ways of distracting them :
• An employee sitting in the exterior on top of the ship, you can still be grabbed up there, but you can quickly move side to side to get out of reach and indefinitely divert the giant's attention.
Careful tho as it only really work with a single giant, 2 of them or more make that technic almost suicidal. You can also profit from being up there and make noise to attract dogs, they can't take the ladder to get to you, then once the team is done and safe, crouch back into the ship before or while it's leaving.
• Jetpack, someone with one can aggro a giant and then lure it into a unnocupied corner of the map and lose LoS here, causing said giant to wander in that corner and being very unlikely to remain a problem for the team.
Of course only viable if you're swimming in credits, have some map knowledge and someone who can handle a jetpack without exploding.
I do agree the giants camping the stairs on Titan are a bit extreme, but being able to drop scrap from the top almost right in front of the ship helps a lot, there almost no horizontal distance to parkour and you can't die of fall damages unless you're already in "critical health".
Last resort, keep a stun grenade on you and time it if you get spotted, or to save another player about to get grabbed.
But all in all i would simply advise to not visit Eclipsed moons or continue to do scrap runs past 8 PM.
Very unfortunate giant spawning on top of you (Just like mines behind the entrance door) can still happens, and even if very rare, there literally no counterplay here.
