I mean thats cool enough on it’s own. If all the enemies could easily kill themselves the game would be far less challenging or engaging.
How do you assume others were talking about something that wasnt even brought up not once, but twice in a row.
Hes clearly saying that the eyeless dog was distracted and therefore shouldn't care about the player making noise since they were already fighting another creature (that they could eat) that was actively hurting them. Nobody said npcs killing eachother hes talking about how the eyeless dog clearly has unnatural priorities focused on player made noises (which alone is immersion breaking, it should treat noises indiscriminately and only value them based on distance) that take priority over anything else which is strange for something that is meant to be a part of an ecosystem that the players wont always be a part of.
I should've phrased it as "neutralized" threats, which precludes both killing and apparently leaving them in an aggro loop since OP insinuated that they shouldn't attack players if they're preoccupied with prey. So thats where the conflict comes in - the player is literally the bottom of the food chain in these biomes, saying you won't "always be a part" of the ecosystem is irrelevant - the dogs are designed to be threats, not just obstacles. Otherwise why bother coding them to fight baboon hawks indefinitely? Its also the same logic that applies to say, one player dropping a heavy item or boombox and alerting the dogs, while the other sprints next to them: its sort of bad teamplay to just assume the dog ISNT going to kill you because other noises are occurring nearby. but thats why you decide to take a route that benefits you rather than pushing yourself to come within 2 feet of a dog.
All this I guess to say, what OP wants is already in the game. If a dog attacks another animal, you already have some leeway to sprint for the ship in such a way theres less stress being put on you. It doesn't need to be tweaked as is because the dogs are generally pretty balanced compared to threats like the giant or worm.
Edit: Like...calling what the dog LITERALLY does at base "unnatural"...bro, thats what its programmed to do lol. Baboon Hawks move faster than the dogs and barely make noise unless they're agitated, makes perfect sense to me dogs wouldn't prioritize them to begin with.
