When someone tries to join my friend only, or i join my friends friend only we get:

The server host is playing on version 16480 while you are on version 40.

We both removed and reinstalled the game, no updates available, what to do now?

yeah if they use mods that rely on LC_API it sets the game version to that so that non-modded player's can't join. Mainly this is to avoid critical errors with mismatched code. Mainly how Bigger Lobby/More Company work they have to change some hardcoded values and create more "player characters" so if you join without that, it's gonna be a bad time.

Remove your mods, or you can change the filetype of the doorstop_config.ini to like doorstop_config.ini.off that way BepInEx doesn't know how to tie into the game, and no mods load.

i have the mod morecompany installed, so does everyone else. we all have the same mod but it doesnt let me join still

Are your mods all up to date with each other?

It was indeed a mod issue, he uninstalled the game through steam, and then installed it again, to make sure mods were removed, apparently some folders remained, causing issues.. having those removed manually, all was fine.

yes, im using thunderstore with my mods and so are my friends. i had an issue with the lethal company directory location before (which no one else had) but i fixed it. but when i click "launch modded version" it doesn't seem to be launching it with mods otherwise i would be able to play in a 4+ person lobby

If you're playing on Linux (or SteamDeck) with Wine/Proton etc then use winecfg and override library for winhttp.dll to be "Native then builtin". This is needed for BepInEx mod

You need to install BiggerLobby on thunder if your friends have it :)

so far the only thing that caused this for my friends and I has been a mod that adds a command to the terminal to show the time, and its API. We removed those two, and it went away
