How are you supposed to get the heavy items onto the ship? I try jumping and dropping but it always falls to the ground, and you can't use the ladder.

Gotta find the right spot to jump on. Usually the short ladder on the right side when facing the entrance has the right height to simply jump on top of

Watch your stamina meter. There seems to be a bug where while standing in knee-deep or higher water, it won't recharge properly. Go somewhere higher and wait for it to recharge fully, then you should be able to make the jump

drop the item and recover stamina, the game isn't trying to trick you, just use your head
