Landmine mimics that move around and when angered, bite your ankles.
Actual human mimics that look like your crewmates but then turn into monsters when close enough
Baby slug monster that is worth a high amount of money. Non combative but when grabbed it starts to cry and call other monsters to it, making him hard to retrieve.
As for actual monster idea's, the one I think would work best is the one already mentioned, that being a player mimic
it could work like "the thing" where maybe like parasite can infect a human, and then the parasite starts to kill the host, and when the host dies, the parasite fully takes over and then follows the other non infected humans around, then strikes or something like that
Although somehow I felt it would require chatgpt level bot and what... tools they have these day to do so.
Yeah we need voice mimics in the game that targets a specific player who's died or is far away from the others.
You can tell whether a player screams from the rapid or short gain in the record volume. Saturation is a real clue for you.
But it would be awesome to record a player talking to themselves and play it back as if they are far away when the monster is around the corner.
Since we know the falloff radius of the sound, we can estimate the minimum distance the monster should be to not be heard by the original guy.
You could potentially even keep a table of which players witnessed someone dying and not play back the recording around them... but even funnier is the monster playing the sounds of the victim they are about to kill lol. And you can have the recorded sound warped with a pitch wobble during chase.
What really drove people crazy were the SCP-939 creatures. They would record whatever the person was last saying before they killed them. (At least lore wise.)
Imagine talking to yourself and you hear it played back far away. Then you start yelling,
"guys?" .."guys?"
"Guys where are you?".."guys where are you?"
"guys that's not me!" .."guys thats not me!"
"don't go to the other me!" .."don't go to the other me!"
*Dies immediately to the mimic*
Now the mimic has your voice and starts calling out to your friends while carrying your body around. As far as the guy on the ship is concerned -- you might still be alive.
I would say recording conversation while not aware of the mimic, and recording when the mimic is chasing. Two modes.
