Silent teammates are taboo?
Q topic. My computer has no mic, that I have ever found. So is it ultimately pointless for me to try joining games?

I mean, you can press / in-game to use a proximity-text chat. When I'm surrounded by dogs on the catwalk outside the ship, I use that text chat to tell people inside to lift off.

You can whisper into your mic, and its honestly probably safer than potentially letting the key taps echo into your mic. The dogs can hear that.

@OP: while text based gameplay works, you’ll have a harder time communicating. Additionally theres a couple types of players who dislike mutes and will boot on sight if you don’t have a mic, making connections a little tougher. I’d recommend finding some bargain bin USB headset that feels comfortable to get the most out of this game.

To be honest, this game was designed around using the mic as it's a core part of the game play. Some lobbies don't like mutes and will kick them on sight

So.. I'm better off refunding then :(
it seems a good game, this really sucks..

Just get a cheap headset. Why are you even playing without headset??

I wouldn’t necessarily, using text chat does provide a little extra tension to the game that mic can take away from. Me personally, I always like having the one micless rookie in lobby cuz they feel like a horror movie protag lol.

if u have a computer that can run this game, u should be able to at least buy the most cheap mic.

Buy a mic. Period. It's 2023.

Crappy mics are really cheap, you might as well since you're going to use it for other games anyway.

half life 1 with mic save the money

Just buy a mic or headset XD

Let me put it another way: The computer doesn't see audio input. I tried a mic and it still didn't take. drivers or w/e the heck is wrong. :/
And all these 'just get a mic' comments are not helping.

Yeah, you should really invest in a mic if you want to play any team-based game nowadays. No one wants to play with a text-only player when like 90% of the community has mics. It's way more immersive and fun to hear teammates.

Try troubleshooting your audio inputs and possibly update/disable enable the audio drivers. You could also try to get a bluetooth connection for a mic working if the physical port is what's broken. Bluetooth headsets are a little pricier, but they're super convenient.

There are some "no mic only room" here and there, but without mic or talking teammate this game wasn't that great.

As an addendum to the Bluetooth suggestion, "standard" Bluetooth headphones don't exactly work with Windows 10 (assuming that's what you're using) because of the stupid HSP profile most of them used to handle mic inputs with audio output, a.k.a. "Hands-Free AG Audio". Try to get a Bluetooth/wireless gaming headset as most of them have specialized dongles you connect to your PC that separate the mic and audio so you don't have to deal with HSP nonsense, take the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro's for example (Not that I actually recommend them, just giving it out as, well, an example)

I've learned the hard way with my JBL Tune 510BT's that Bluetooth gaming isn't advised with standard stuff, so you'd want specialized headsets that handle both the mic and stereo audio at the same time, so maybe I'd recommend just getting a standalone mic for whatever you're using
