Maybe something like Alien Isolation scanner
And I think while slower creature spawns would make it easier it's not exacly a solution as much as a band-aid fix, plus most of the fun is avoiding the spookies.
Basically just reduce the quota value by 25% for each player not in the game.
Most of the mobs can't be dealt with even in multiplayer (outside of some tomfoolery for a few), the only mob that comes to mind is the snare flea which are easy enough to avoid.
And you solve a problem like that by adjusting the spawn values based on the number of players in the game, so things like snare fleas are a bit more rare in a sp game but are normal values in a game with other players.
If this game receives workshop support I'm sure there would be (if there aren't already some now somewhere) mods to do something similar.
I have discovered this once and it blew my mind. If a snare flea jumps you and you have a shovel/sign, since it'll automatically drop everything in your inventory, you can still scan for nearby items, grab the shovel, and kill it WHILE it's on your head SOLO. You're welcome.
Maybe there could be some configurable settings before starting a game, to change how long days last and whether or not all your scrap gets lost when you die. There's mods for that right now, so it's already possible, but ofc I always prefer built in options over having to mod the game.
Was trying to play the game just as a duo recently and, it's tough, very tough. It's like starting your game with half of your team dead already, very little room for error before all your scrap goes poof.
And there is nothing wrong with that. Games like Deep Rock Galactic play best with 4 players, but scales wonderfully when you have less so it's accessible even if you're one or two people short.
Co-op games are just that, co-op games. If you want a single-player game go find something else to play.
