there is a mod you can download that allows up to 20 people. My friends and I use it and regularly have 6 people.

Yeah I hope the limit is upped manually with 6 or 8. But as mentioned there is a mod, On ModDB "Bigger Lobby" currently I'm using V1.0.9 but if the game updates again (currently v40) the mod may break, but they're doing great and getting it updated.
