Update: the webcam mic worked and the Index mic did not, further confirming it's likely an audio interface issue.
I solved my issue. It was unrelated to the usb port. My setup was weird and I was plugged into a wrong port on my interface.

One thing is working for me - connecting XLR from mic directly to audio card. But I'm not satisfied with sound quality (I'm using lamb pre-amp as pre amp, so it connects with 6jack into scarlett. I don't want to unplug my mic just for a game .
I would try this myself, but needless to say I ended up refunding given that the fact that having a working mic is kind of required to have any fun here
