Thumpers have hearing now?

I'm unsure if this is a bug or intended. But Thumpers keep noticing me through entire walls or even the ceiling if I'm not crouched. One run got ended because I could hear a thumper above me on the next floor, I stood up to walk to a door and he yelled like he usually does when agro'd. and I could hear him sprinting towards the stairs ahead, shoot down them and B-line straight towards me.
