Dunno when it'll be added though or if they'll change their mind. Saw this for a moment and thought this was the argument filled version of this topic >->
Sorry if this is a bit blunt, but this isn't your art. You aren't the artist here, not every developer is going to be super turned off or upset by someone suggesting something they disagree with, viewing valid feedback as an affront to your intentions. They can just say no.
Not to mention the actual valid benefits, if you just want to keep your original intention, great. But arachnaphobia is one of the most common phobias in the world, expanding the community and potential sales with a super easy and quick to implement asset toggle is ultimately going to do more good than harm. It doesn't have to be a lot, this isn't some multi-day long lasting project, it just has to be enough to justify the time spent on it.
Development is indeed hard! I however do have experience with asset replacements. If this were asking for new mechanics or an extremely detailed asset though I'd understand. Making a mod is actually a very good idea, but it'd be even greater to have it in the game. (Hence this being a suggestion). IIrc someone already made a mod to replace the bracken.
No one is saying it doesn't take effort, this sort of response is reserved for people who think every small thing takes ages and thus we shouldn't suggest it on that basis alone. No one wants everything dropped and this attended to right now, either, but seeing "no, the ideas bad because it takes time" is silly. It's okay to just say you don't like it.
Unrelated I'm a fan of the actual calmer arguments compared to the old thread, they're more fun.
I think this comes down more to a preference thing, like retro horror is still scary despite old graphics right? I'm sure that the style reduces the fear factor for some people, but there are definitely good scares in games with retro/older style.
