How to deal with flooding?

I go into a place planning to leave before nightfall and it floods fully by like noon lol. I don't mind it as a concept, but how do you deal with it? Same for that lightning weather. Is it just an L and it lets you try and maybe make a buck or two by being risky or is it just objectively better to go to another place?

I'm curious about the lightning too.
In my second mission ever my crewmates died and i had a few bolts and an axle to take home.
I tried going outside but got warned that i would be zapped within seconds carrying the metal objects.

I went back inside and i ran into 2 little cute looting creature things, they would pick up stuff and just stare me down.
I decided to drop a bolt to "trade" for the can of beer they brought back to their hideout, right next to my deceased mate's mangled corpse.

Long story short the trade was one-sided and they got REALLY upset when i ran off with the crate so i got mauled as well, but i'm curious if i had any chance of making it back with the metal objects i had during the storm.

With lightning I've discovered if you just have one item in your inventory you should be fine, don't know if actively having it equipped matters or not. My only experience with the loot guys is me hearing something rapidly approaching me, seeing a strange little creature right next to me, and running away while screaming and falling off a ledge.

you have to drop any metal you have when you start hearing the sparks attract to that object, any items in your hot bar that is metal can just shock you dead so its better to bring one of them back at a time i feel unless your fast at dropping
