Game broke on me? Can't progress here.

This is just after learning the dash technique, towards the end of the game. After passing through a bunch of red-pink traps enters a space where there are a few crystals on tall trees, which need to be shot in order, and then this blue spirit orb falls down. Then the orb is supposed to be picked-up and placed on the flower.

The issue is that after picking up the orb, my rot won't move it when I direct them to. I seemingly can't move it anywhere, and they won't place it on the flower. They just stand still holding it unless I press 'B' for them to release it again.

I'm playing with keyboard and mouse. And it's been a while since I last played this, so maybe I'm missing something, but I'm aiming at the flower with 'Alt' and pressing 'R' to tell the rot to move it there - but it isn't working. I've also tried telling them to move it to anywhere else, and it's also not working. I've also tried pressing any key I can, and they're not doing anything to move the orb.

Anyone know the issue?

I temporarily remapped the key for aiming from 'Alt' to Q, and was then able to command the blue spirit orb like I should be able to. So, it only doesn't work when I try to do the Alt + R key combo. That's weird, since I didn't use to have that issue.
