The bosses in this game are harder than in usual games. If you play on particular master difficulty it is meant that the (real) boss fights reach a level of souls game. So no surprise there.

This is why Kena offers a lot of difficulty from story mode to master difficulty for hardcore gamers. The master difficulty was patched in later to this game to give an extra challenge and once were only accessible playing the game through once, but a patch deleted this limitation. So you may play it right from the start.

Usually expert was the highest difficulty in the early days. So feel free to switch down from master to expert if Kena feels too challenging. There is an option to lower difficulty anytime. But there is a Steam achievement for the master difficulty.
Ive been playing armored core since 1997. You're not getting old, its just the mechanics of this game are a little different than the others. I play with a Ps5 controller. the builds that help me with bosses the most are double machine guns for the arms and double cannons for the back. the machine guns stun bosses relatively easy and the two cannons punish when you stun the boss. The damage output is hard for even the ai to keep up with sometimes. The trick i used was to get over being scared of bosses and to get in there and clobber them. Bosses don't like pressure. Also, switch your builds up frequently. The weirdest most awkward builds work really great in some missions.

Wrong game fam but thank you :D

BTW i managed to beat the boss yesterday - i think key to success was to stay calm and steady. But this game disguises as a kiddy/cozy game and then throw bosses at you which just obliterate you lol.

Upgrading your staff to a machine gun or a rocket launcher would surely be helpful

I assume you have never played NES games. Every game back then would stomp you into the dirt.
I am old too and this game feels weird to me. Sure, make a hard game if you want, but the boss difficulty is a weird match to the aesthetics of the game. I want to play the game for it's adventure and looks, but we'll see if I finish it. I'm 7 hours in so far.

Other games do offer many more finer difficulty settings. That is a tip I would give the developers. Being able to tweak certain settings helps a lot with players having a challenge, yet still have fun with it.

bro i just abandoned the game bc of the next boss figt. they are just not fun and feel, like you said, not right in this setting. i hope you don't loose your fun and beat it - i uninstalled^^
Are you guys playing on the easy mode? Story, I think it is called. Should be pretty easy to clear on that setting.
Actually the same thought as I had, D. Flame. Hilarious to read that kaP uninstalled the game rather than just switch down the difficulty to a more suitable one he feels comfortable with. Story mode is indeed the lowest, and it is nearly impossible to loose a fight with it.

Seems kaP, like a lot of other players nowadays, are too proud to play anything less than 'super hardcore power ultra difficult mode'. But I guess it can't be helped, even if the devs added about 7 difficulties to the game, and allow difficulty changing during game, people will still complain :)

This thread made me curious so I reinstalled and started a fresh game on Master.

Yeah, this is definitely not a setting for those that just want to experience the story:

(also, are you supposed to used the drops in this fit to clear the poison around the tree? It was never clear to me)

But if you just want a cozy game game to fit the aesthetic, and to enjoy the story, then just choose the setting literally called story.

I regularly play soulslikes, and even when I originally beat the game, I just played through on Normal.

you are pretty right that i am too proud to lower the difficulty. but the thing is - the boss fights are straight up not fun and not fair. i beat elden ring for example because i always could tell that it was my mistake when i died on a boss. that motivated me to do better. this game failes miserabely to give me even a little of this feeling - like me and other said in this thread; the boss fights in this game just don't feel right regarding the setting/style/message. and in the end of the day the game and it's story are not that good that it's worth to lower the difficulty just for the sake of beating it. that's my opinion.

and by the way i dont play it on 'super hardcore power ultra difficult mode' - i played it on "normal" xD

Git gud.

The boss fights are fair. If they too difficult for your low skill level, then just lower the difficulty instead of blaming the game for your own faults. If you play soulslikes, then you should have learned not to blame the game a long time ago.

Yes, D.Flame, and this is exactly the problem.

Master difficulty was a special difficulty that was formerly only accessible after beating the game once. But in a later patch they changed it to be accessibly right from the start, so new players accidentally choose 'master' according to their behaviour they play hardest difficulty always, resulting in a special experience that is not intended for a normal game experience. Especially the bigger bosses, and the real bosses become pretty mean in master difficulty, getting close to a souls-feeling.

Happened to me as well that I accidentally choose the master difficulty for my first playthrough without knowing. Even not used to souls game at all, I still sticked to it even after reading about it being a special hard difficulty, because due to the weakspots bosses have, you always have a slightly fair chance to win those battles out of sheer persistance and luck :)

Master difficulty on a normal NG is even harder than playing NG+ master if you ask me. Although in NG+ master difficulty the real bosses get a fourth battle phase (flame version) that is prett nasty. But due to the fact that the final boss does not gain much of a buff and you have all rot powers and charms from the start, also additional 4-5 new charms you can find (1-2 of them being particular powerful), the overall difficulty feels lower than on a NG master run. But this is my personal experience.

I am surprised.

Kena is a baby mode souls boss fight game. Elden Ring is much more difficult in my opinion. I respect you for playing Elden Ring :D

The bosses on Kena can be analysed and learned pretty well. Every boss phase has different weakspots and one special weakspot (that will do super damage and staggers the boss a lot). That is why it never felt unfair to me, because you can learn those on multiple tries and then target them on purpose.

You can even skip complete boss phases with your rot powers. Which is pretty important doing a NG+ master run with the fourth battle phase. Those fourth phases I always try to skip totally, and don't allow the boss to change into. It works if you tactically prepare to ambush the boss the moment he wants to change to flame modewith spirit dash and rot powers xD

Conclusion: A few of the final bosses might feel a little cheap on the first encounter, but once you learn their gimmicks, they really aren't. If you don't know what to do, then just You Tube it. If you are hung up on just wanting to see the story, then lower the difficulty, play through, enjoy the story, learn the gimmicks, then if you want, just play through again on a harder difficulty for the gameplay.

The concept that "kids game = easy" is a fairly recent one, and it is wrong. If you grew up in the NES era, you would know that most games were considered for kids, and those games are still some of the toughest games of all time.
