What I experienced, and this is more severe with this ring-thing is, when you use your lance at the wrong moment, Rot God will temporarily die far outside of the ring. The game then expects you to go up to it to attack its heart and finish it off completely. Which is technically not possible to do without dying in the timespan you are allowed to go outside in some cases. If I remember correctly Rot God will recover and get all of its health back in the process if you don't do anything and stay inside. Which at least causes you not to repeat the whole fight but only the last phase. So make sure to wait tactically for a good moment when Rot God is close by or inside the ring before using the lances. , and it shouldn't be much of an issue.
I agree that it would have been nice of the devs to give us a checkpoint right before that fight, but actually it is like a multi-phased boss fight, consider facing the boss at the end is like its third boss phase. So you have to repeat phase 1 and 2 (with that parcouring) again.
Still, final boss is the most easy boss fight when you try to do the master difficulty, because he is mostly mob fight based, and has a kill mechanic that is easy to perform as soon as you understood what to do and how to exercise.
