Yeah let me know, I'm waiting on th is too.
This. I always slow roll my eyes when people say "wait for reviews" because being a sheep and waiting for some stranger to tell you what is or isn't fun isn't exactly something to be proud of.
Granted, you can usually digest a lot out of reviews, but you need to read a ton of them,, as in ACTUALLY READ THEM, look for patterns, and dismiss opinions out right because they're useless (someone might hate all the text in a game but if you're like me and prefer story above all else and also read novels and visual novels a lot, this would hardly be a negative for you), and then simply use it as a foundation for whether or not to even try the game.
Unfortunately, no one does this. They go to metacritic or open critic, and anything below a 90% is complete garbage to them and not worth the light of day unless it's going viral on social media or the streamer/youtuber they mentally sukckle every night is playing the game.
Except that when you read a review you've liked, suddenly you'd be all like: "Wow, I liked that review, maybe the game is good!"...
Dare to tell me it's not true?
So it all boils down to what kind of review it is, who wrote it, how authentic they went about it... It can be good and informative and horrible and biased and anything in between.
The trick is not to *trust* someones' verdict, but to look for authenticity, counter-reference it, and compare it to what your tastes aim for.
To further that clausule: Right now, I (as in Nikanuur) know, that I met a guy (as in you), who trusts his judgement more than that of others. I call that authentic, and a value. Therefore I am quite closer to understanding that his game *must* have some good qualities.
Thanks for that, by the way.
Talking about confirmation bias? People do that, a lot, and in fact go out of their way to find reviews (or any kind of commentary about anything) that aligns with how they WANT to feel.
But maybe actually read my post? I already explained in pretty great detail how to get anything worthwhile out of a review you have to do more work than most people are willing to do.
I don't follow/read/watch reviews at all outside of looking for technical issues which is all I care about, and in that case I pick 10 random reviewers who review said game on PC with similar specs just to see how the game runes and how buggy it is.
I play games and find out myself whether or not they're good. Some are great, some are laughable messes, some are decent little ventures, but I decide for myself. This is my hobby and I'm not poor, so I can afford to play more than the 1-3 GOTY contenders or only games that are currently viral on social media.
What are you even talking about? Is English not your first language, because it sounds like you're totally somewhere else mentally right now?
How strange is that...
I keep coming back to it though. And I must admint whatever my feelings, it's got very nice charms and a strange alure. So, I wanted to thank you guys for recommending this piece. There are some tougher fights as well The games'not really that easy how others make it sometimes. Or they "review" only the initial fights. The combat later on can be tough, I had to repeat some fights several times and learn first. I liked that!
PS: I would never admit that I am capable of yearning for more Rot hats. Oh mother! I am a Dark Souls, Prey, God of War or Pillars of Eternity kind of a player! But this lovely game has made me just so. Oh mother! What have my gaming goals have gotten to! :D
Wait it doesn't work on Steam Deck? ahh damn what a shame. I'm still gonna buy it but it would have been nice to play Kena on the move.
