In the case of constitution you need to spend high-quality items for minuscule amounts of XP.
Most recipes require ingredients that you can't get a lot of at once, or you can only get a certain amount daily (Pure/Well Water). The main exception would be the 2 meat recipes from the start of the game if you helped one of the girls and then gave them either Snake Meat or Boar Meat.
You can get a few recipes from chests in abandoned houses, from trading with Hua Siniang, the Chef in Shifa temple if you join, and you'll get some recipes from quests in the other non-central regions.
I helped one of the girls and gave her snake meat, and I definitely didn't get a recipe. Hmmmm.
If you have teamates who are innkeepers(there are two, one at the start of the game), you have a portable food store you can use to further stuff your face.
"If you find the Buddha on the road, eat him."
Two other exceptions are the wolf meat recipe from the snow mountain in South West region, and the salamander meat recipe (purple tier) from the desert region.
