#1 Wanyan Zhaoning

Holy moly, getting her was crazy, it took me two days to figure everything out... the whole Yan Yun and Ye army quests are pretty complicated with a bunch of different outcomes and Zhaoning is no different.

Before dealing with the Yan Yun army

1. You need to meet her in the <!> event on the map.
2. You can optionally fight her cronies in the Shifa Temple.
3. You must have a Seal of People in the inventory to meet her near the Yan Yun army camp. AND the seal must be UNEQUIPPED, if it is equipped on someone she wouldn't show.
4. You must NOT kill the Yan Yun army before you meet the Emperor, meaning if you enter the Yan Yun camp, the guards initiate the dialogue and if you choose to go inside the camp, you will have to kill everyone, this for some reason also kills Wanyan Zhaoning.
5. You must go the temple in the Dalian city and stop her from becoming a nun.
6. Then together with her you can go into any tavern and drink yourself to oblivion, which I would happily do IRL after that much trouble.

#2 Hua Qingqing

She is a stubborn one!

I met her in the auction.
She challenged me in the Langya Sword Pavilion.
I broke her out of the Buddha Temple.
When I go near the Swallow Nest on the world map, she gives me small gifts
HOWEVER. It's day 564, I subdued all the sects, I killed Yan Yun army, I'm the number one in the world, but she is still chilling in the Crime Investigation Bureau prison and refuses to get out or join me just because she got arrested in the BEGINNING of the game.

You must not get her arrested, or you'll be softlocked out of her questline completely.

#3 Feng Xuanji

You won't even know that you could recruit her!

Okay, I just entered Flame city, just got into into the tavern, then went to the Holy Fire sect and stuff got CRAZY all of a sudden. A bunch of guys showed up and killed all the Holy Fire sect members including Feng Xuanji (they didn't even show her name).

1. You must not kill the shady one eyed guy in the Chang'an Inn.
2. Whatever you do, don't enter the Inn in the Flame City.
3. Get a quest from Haitang Qiu (Chang'an Inn lady) to deliver the letter to the Holy Fire sect.
4. Resolve the conflict between the Holy Fire Sect and Cold Skin Gang however you want, just be sure to recruit her first.

That is crazy if you just enter the Inn in the Flame city you'll be locked out of the whole questline in the new region.

#4 Yan Rurui

Don't stand her up!

If you don't meet her when she asks, that's it folks.

#5 Miao Caidie

It's annoying but you have to do it. You have to use the trick in order to have them all

Getting the melody girls is pretty easy(except for the Gu Qingcheng). Just side with the Melody House.
However in order to get enter Jiuliu Tribe you must use the Fighting trick.

#6 Gu Qingcheng

She is crafty!

1. Do her search quest (This is just impossible to do without a walkthrough.)
2. Meet her requirements (1000 MP and 60 Music), I was lucky to be a high Music Zither user.
3. Do not throw away and UNEQUIP the Zither that she gifts to you. I was a Zither user and if you don't unequip it, you miss her. Like with the seal of People if the item is equipped, it does not exist for the NPCs.

Honorable mentions

Qu Wangyou - I never entered her Herbology sect.

Man Tuoluo - I entered the Snowflower Valley, but for some reason missed the turn where you get to Tuoluo. (Sometimes I miss not having a minimap)

I know it sounds stupid, but I missed those girls cause I never entered their respected locations. There is so much to do in this game, that those locations kinda slipped my attention.


Anyway don't be like me and use the guide to obtain 15 wives and have fun.

The easiest way to get all the girls is by following a guide. I have gotten pretty much all of the girls in my 1st playthrough. This game is a sand box open world game so players tend to do everything they want. But traditional Chinese games have their trick. Everything comes with consequences. The 1st principle is do not kill or steal from anyone unless the game tells you to do so. Killing or stealing from random people may lock you out of future quests that you are not aware of. The 2nd principle is keeping multiple save files to fix your problem.

For Hua Qingqing, you can play double-side at the beginning. I sided with Luo Qianxue but when she went to sleep, I just released Hua Qingqing. After that, you can join the CIB first and get Luo Qianxue. Then you join the Swallow Nest and get Hua Qingqing. In the final battle at Swallow Nest, you must put the CIB members in your party (not your home) to avoid killing them in the battle.

Feng Xuanji is pretty tricky. If you follow the Cold Skin Gang quest line, you must also raise your relationship with the Holy Flame Sect by gifting their members and doing some quests. Because near the end of the Cold Skin Gang quest line, the game will ask you to go to the inn and after that, you will have a mandatory battle with Holy Flame Sect. If your relationship with them is not high enough, you will become their enemy forever and that locks you out from completing Feng Xuanji quest line.

Miao Caidie is also pretty easy. If you don't want to use the fighting trick, just get the Invisible Cloak from Swallow Nest and sneak into Jiuli Tribe. You must get Miao Caidie before completing the Melody House quest.

For Gu Qingcheng, you don't need 60 musical stat, only 1000 MP is needed. My character is like zero musical stat but I can still get her. The tricky part of the Melody House quest is when their leader asks you to rescue Yu Wei'er. Do not go to the main hall of Jiuli Tribe, just go to the altar and rescue Yu Wei'er. If you go to the main hall, you will have to destroy Jiuli Tribe, which would lock you out from the next quest of Melody House.

Killing the Yan Yun army would be the last thing you should consider in your current playthrough. The battle of Xuchiang is the turning point of the whole story. After that point, many things will be locked out. For instance, Kang Duke will not be in his mansion and you couldn't marry Fuqing Princess anymore.

After wiping out the Yan Yun army she never appeared until I loaded before and had the Seal of the People event. Even more after I saved her, she mentioned this event, so it is part of the quest line. Requires more testing I guess, but I'm telling from the personal experience.

I tested right now. I had a save where I was in the Swallow Nest near the end of the playthrough, I didn't want to mess with the Benevolence and Propriety stats, so it was day 578. You locked yourself out of recruiting Hua Qingqing the moment you failed her opening quest and the both of you got arrested. Next time, either don't side with either of them, or refuse her suggestion of capturing Luo Qianxue.
She can only be recruited while she is at the Swallows Nest home base.

Heh, I wish I knew it beforehand. I had to learn the hard way. I agree with the Chuxiang battle. At first couple of times I just wiped the Yan Yun army, then I tried the seige thing and was amazed by the depth of the questline. Especially the Marshal Ye's execution
As for the Fuqing, I was lucky I married her pretty early.

Oh, that's a nice alternative, good thinking. Though it costs 5k contribution lol. So you need 10 Water patrol missions I guess.

I think you need one of those. I didn't have 1000 MP, but had 80+ Music. Yeah I agree with Yu Wei'er part, I even used a stealth distraction trick so I won't need to kill the guard that stops you from coming in. Not that its necessary.

Finally I have the answer to this weird thing. Thanks, man. That's a huge oversight on the devs part IMO, looking at the other quests and their possibilities it is kinda strange that you can't get her out of the prison.

For what it's worth, after having raised Miao Caidie's relations to 100 within Lin'an city I found that I could start combat and kill the two guys at Jiuli Tribe without making the tribe hostile. It simply did not lower the sect's relations enough. That could potentially have been a problem if they eventually respawn and I didn't handle Caidie's recruitment and bonding first, maybe?

For Wanyan Zhaoning, you don't need to wipe out the Yan Yun army. Just assassinate their leader. The plot here is after the death of Wanyan Zhaoning's uncle, she will lose her backup and everyone who hates her will get a chance to avenge. If you step up and help her, she will abandon her princess status and cut the tie with the Yan Yun army. The Seal of People part is entirely optional. After killing her uncle, I just wandered the Daliang area and saw many people attacking her. The rest is easy.

For Kang Duke sister, I avoid marrying her too soon. After marrying her, you only gain 1/10 point when gifting other girls. It is pretty annoying (you can still minimize the effect by equipping some items to raise the point). So I rather doing the Princess quest after getting most of the other girls.

Qu Wangyou is a must. She can help you in many quests such as curing Miao Caidie or Ling Mengdie. So getting her in the early game is a priority. Ding Haitang and Han Hongyu are also easy to miss. You must complete their quest line before rescuing the emperor/battle of Xuchiang.

I'm in my 3rd playthrough and have yet to recruit Ye Yinping, its involved and has timing issues, so I'd say shes an honorable mention.

I used a mod to get rid of the negatives of her trait. I think it is very non-player friendly. With the Ding family blood worm Gu you at least have the ability to remove it.

I always did a lot of acupuncturing, so my medicine skill was high, but that indeed would've been helpful.

Ha ha. This game stays true to the traditional Chinese culture. In ancient China, if you married a princess, you could only have 1 wife. If the princess caught you cheating on her, she can punish you harshly. The exception is for noblemen of high level such as a duke or a prime minister then you can have some other concubines but it is rare.
