At least it isn't hard to level up the skill for appraising books by buying unknown ones from the pawnshops, its much harder to level up the medicine and accessory appraisal skills.
Which old beggar's side quest?
This is my biggest pet peeve of the game. It has been bugged since Sept 2023-ish version.
The beggar by the port in Lin'an is supposed to sell you random internal manuals for 10 guan each, which is triggered every 24 in-game hours. Ever since the patch in Sept 2023, the beggar has been bugged and wouldn't trigger anymore after you talked to him once. He has 29 blue internal manuals (albeit many of those could be found elsewhere), but still a sizeable of them are unique and not available elsewhere.
I have reported this is Discord a few times and the devs seemed to ignore the bug.
Together with the beggar above, there are two more NPCs which are bugged in Lin'an:
- The businessman by the notice board is also supposed to trigger the investment event every 24 hours. But now he is disabled, like the beggar above, after you talked to him once.
- The wandering dude in yellow-ish cloth. He will bump into you and asks for money. You should be able to trigger the quest daily to get +10 courage.
Back then, merely walking next to them triggered their events so you couldn't walk through Lin'an without getting accosted.
IIRC, the rewards from each of these events got buffed in return.
I personally don't think it makes a difference if the Beggar event was repeatable or not. The Nameless Manual only offers Blue tier manuals and they suck.
Edit: I think the Nameless Manual was a 1 time event back then anyway, the beggar would ask multiple times but you could only buy it from him once.
Oh I see, oof I guess, I mean I understand that, but it kinda sucks for roleplayers or completionists like me who want to get all possible available manuals that's available to you in one run. And there is also the question of there only being 3 Medical Manuals in the game, Revitalization, 4 Saints, and Golden Core, 2 of which are blue, so if you didn't get the Revitalization Manual in the beginning of the game and didn't get Golden Core from the nameless manual, then medical for your followers would be a problem (for roleplayers, I know healing in battles is pretty useless XD).
On that note, senior brother Darkshintos, do you happen to know of a way to upgrade healing for followers other than the medical books? I was planning to get the White Haired Doctor's Medical to 250 so he would achieve his life long dream of becoming a great medical practitioner! I even saved up all my medical books for him and Qu Wangyou.
His upper limit is 350 btw. His dream of becoming a great doctor/learning from the best is supposed to be his character quest. If you take him to Qu Wangyou and let him train for a couple of days, he gets something like +34 Medical. That's the end of his journey, he achieves his dream of learning from the best doctors (The Plant Sect Leader is called the Divine Doctor).
He starts at around 35 base Medical, so with all 3 Internals (112) and his personal quest (34), you can get around 181 Medical on him.
Then you can get +90 Medical to all Party members by reading the 3 Shifa Scriptures.
That gets him up to something like 270.
You can probably bring it up to 300 if you give him all the books before learning all the Internals and before reading the Scriptures
Also, yeah I know that Herbology Sect ends his quests, but I just felt it was a bit lacking ya know, and felt bad for old bai, so I'm currently roleplaying as a divine emperor dude going around trying to fulfil everyone's wishes and get to achieve their full potentials as high as I can possibly do.
I really hope they update the interactions more, like I brought all Yang Family characters (Shiba, Yao'er, Blind Spearman Dude, Kong Yidao) to General Yang's grave in Wolf Valley to pay respects and surprisingly Yang Yao'er Doesn't even bat an eye XD. Or did I have to do it in a specified progression?
Yes, they mostly suck. But, 1) these manuals are valuable to players who want to role-play and to equip on the party members, 2) these manuals are already designed and implemented in the game, there is no good reasons to stop players from accessing those manuals, and 3) weapon-related manuals increases damage by 20%, which are really good for beginners and are not available else where.
I managed to purchased all 29 of them in one of my runs. Definitely not a one-off event.
