Inventory does not open

I was looking forward to playing this, started working my way through the tutorial section, then I got to the part where you pick up two pieces of cloth, and the game tells you to hold Tab to open the inventory and craft a bandage.

However, even after picking up the two pieces of cloth, holding tab only shows me the bloody hand, and nothing else happens. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to fix this?

Press tab, do not hold. Holding is to check your health state without actually pausing the game.

Playing with a PS4 controller and nothing happens when I press, hold and/or swipe the inventory button aka the touchpad. The touchpad does register as being pressed when the "press any key t continue" needs to be dealt with, though, so it does work.

Only way for me to play it is take a hand off the controller and reach for the tab key on my keyboard which is seriously annoying and inconcenient. Any ideas?

(Also, oh dear, why won't they just let me remap the controller in 2023?)

DS4 controllers don't have native support on PC and are instead wrapped to the 360 controller binaries.

So unless you are using DS4Windows with the touchpad set to "passthru" mode with a tested profile, the touchpad is not going to work and is just passing a signal to be dropped by the system.
