I know that may be blasphemy but i loved the variation in setpieces and the ghouls were hands down the creepiest enemies in the franchise.
I'm enjoying Bunker right now but it seems a bit more gimmicky and claustrophobic than the previous titles (which i imagine is fully intentional).
The Bunker was very good, just very short and left me wanting more.
The older titles are really good at psychological horror, but they fall flat hard when the monster actually shows up as an unintimidating muppet.
They're also fairly linear in their setpieces, Soma and Rebirth are the opposite.
Soma has an amazing story imo, the amnesia series has really interesting lore but most of it boils down to the same stuff.
Imagine that secluded space, but with a day/night cycle, beasties roaming the night, you digging deeper daily to uncover ancient secrets and then fortifying a safe space in time for the night...
the dark descent > soma? really? do people think this?
i havent played bunker yet, but i HOPE you're overrating the dark descent. i remember it feeling very overrated 10 years ago.
i agree. it was really well done, and it was damn intense in spots.
I'm always surprised by these comments considering the bunker doesn't do any of this better. Like what characters or story? There isn't any. I scavenge for items, evade the monster and escape the bunker. It's basically a 6 hour escape room experience - there was no story.
Not much horror either, the rat monster is kind of boring and easy to deal with. Maybe I don't scare easy but even just comparing them the monsters from Rebirth are bit more unnerving and I didn't have a shotgun to deal with them in that game.
