What changed with the monster?
The update was very vague about the the monster's AI, only saying something like "Made the beast more unpredictable". But what does that mean?

I played the new mode for a bit, but he seemed to just sort of popped out where he fancied in the dark much like the original version.

That actually does sound difficult, the original version kinda just went to a noise and left after a bit even if you were hiding under his nose most of the time.
Yes from my experience hes done it multiple times, the worst was when he walked over to where I knew a whole was and went completely silent to draw me out. Hes also cut me off from unexpected angles, places I never would have imagined him coming from.
I'm not sure, I was looking at a few playthroughs of shell shocked mode and he sort of just appeared around a corner with no warning

At 55:05, he sort of just appears with no audio cue whatsoever. The people in the comment section also appear to be confused at what is happening. Maybe teleportation, but that would be pretty pointless when he already traverses around the map at high speed through the holes. Although, he could just be reeeeaaalllyyyy quiet.

I think its based on how high you have his settings. I think if you max his reactivity he'll do it quite often. I did a fun where I gave myself more gen time and resources but set all the enemies to maximum and was pretty damn scary. Whenever I had returned from the Arsenal for the first time he straight up burst out of the safe room wall after I saved and sent debris flying.
I also put all of his behaviours on max and gave myself a bunch of resources. I shot him 3 times once and he ran off and never appeared again and I had his retreat time on default.

His default retreat time is pretty long and I'm pretty certain its also based on how much noise you make after he retreats too, I put his retreat time on the lowest settings and made it so he would only run from explosives. I think it worked pretty well it made him feel much more like an actual threat when it costs a well timed grenade and it only buys you a minute or two. I may have just gotten lucky and had a really good experience with his new AI, he felt pretty immersive especially when he would get pissed off whenever he couldn't find me. There was one weird time though when I was in the prison and he was about to emerge so I started running back to the main hub and when I got there he made no crawling noises and no emerging noises, but he was just randomly standing next to the detonator of all places and Im pretty sure the closest hole to there is the safe room hole.

Only new thing that happened to me was the monster grabbing my legs when climbing to the pillbox, was kinda scary.
Unpredictability adds some new behaviors. I have seen the Stalker/Beast now randomly check under tables, in hiding spots, etc as opposed to just patrolling. On top of that, the Stalker/Beast will now silently spawn from a hole to patrol an area rather than announce his arrival like normal. The Stalker/Beast will also occasionally stand guard in a dark area and look around, as if it were looking and listening for you.

Some neat stuff.
