Bunker is NOT better than Rebirth and here's why
Amnesia: Rebirth strayed from the Amnesia formula by changing the focus of the game from the terrific horror sections to creating a captivating story. They created breathtaking environments that dive deep into the lovecraftian and finally show us the Dark World. The environments of the Dark World are brilliant in terms of showing us the culture of an alien race that has it's own share of problems and different mentality. The enemies aren't the star of the show anymore. Instead they serve to create atmosphere.
Amnesia: The Bunker on the other hand is not a story-driven game, but instead an experience. They took the scarcity of resources and value of items from Dark Descent and improved on it. We are immersed not by the story, but the interactivity of the world we play in, as everything we find makes a difference and the choices we make are impactful and make everyones playthough unique to a certain extent.
One game is an interactive story and the other is a survival horror and thus both are great and comparing them without seeing the whole picture is blatantly ignorant.

Personally i liked when Rebirth told the story about the settings we were in, but the whole baby thing was a tumor that ruined the experience. It didn’t help that Tasi was an annoying character that kept interrupting gameplay, talking, control wrestled away from the player to stare at her stomach like every 30 seconds. It was just an awful way of implementing an pregnancy mechanic that felt way too "in your face".
Also the other world environments was cool at first, but i feel like after a while it just got… boring? The first few visits were cool, but when we reached Empress’s tower it’s like the game lost all it’s freshness and felt like a cliche slog.

After reading about the story, the whole baby plot that takes centre stage is really weird and forced for no reason. There is hardly any focus on the otherworld itself or anything from the past two games like the orbs and The Shadow. Yeah, you do use an orb like once and The Shadow makes like one brief appearance, but that is literally it. And the way sanity is handled through the whole "Press X to hold belly" felt more like a joke reference to the Press F to pay respects meme. Sanity has been a staple mechanic of this series and the second iteration is somehow worse than the original, which mostly resulted in you collapsing if it went too high, but that was it. Hell, there was even a cut infection mechanic for AMFP that was cut because the developers were obsessed with the story. It was meant to replace the sanity system from the original in AMFP and actually sounded a bit more interesting than Rebirth's sanity system.

Plus other stuff like the compass hardly played any roll. Imagine going through the game using all sorts of weird equipment. I feel like the orbs could of played a major role as some kind of key item as in AMFP the main villain of that game is actually a duplicate copy of the protagonist, or and evil version of him and he was made from the orb separating the two. (I think, I haven't seen it in a while.) So the orbs are capable of a lot of stuff within the series, but they are barely used in the gameplay which is a shame.

Agreed with this if by "Penumbra" you mean just Overture & Black Plague, if we included Penumbra Necrologue & Requiem I'd put them at the very bottom

Nothing is wrong with Penumbra, all the games placed above it just happen to be better.

Nothing is wrong with Penumbra, all the games placed above it just happen to be better.
I just think Black plague (Overture was interesting, but no that honestly) had a very interesting plot, that I didn't see in any other horror game, movie or anything. It was goofy at some moments, but still it kept me going. I think it's totally better than the Bunker in terms of plot, but gameplay wise it's really worse than any one of them. Maybe better than AMFP, so I just don't feel like a linear comparison of all of them cuts it. But that's just me being picky.

The gun serves many purposes, but does not harm the monster if that is what you're asking.

You are right, Penumbra MIGHT actually be better than the Bunker. I think it really comes down to what you prefer between the 2. The story and puzzles of Penumbra or the gameplay and dread of Bunker.

You are right, Penumbra MIGHT actually be better than the Bunker. I think it really comes down to what you prefer between the 2. The story and puzzles of Penumbra or the gameplay and dread of Bunker.
It's always subjective, I like the way you phrase it. Agreed.

For what it's worth, I prefer the more story-driven direction of TDD, Rebirth, or Soma. A Machine for Pigs went too far away from the gameplay that I like, but I just can't get into The Bunker for very long.

Being around the monster so frequently makes the experience more frustrating and less scary. Once you die to the monster and essentially have to repeat a sequence all over, it feels like a slog. The other Amnesia games are much more judicious with hostile encounters.

I agree that Rebirth is much better and there are several reasons for this:

First, Bunker is a much smaller game. Bunker is a 5 hour game. Rebirth is 8-9 hours of experience.

Secondly. Bunker's development time was much shorter - 31 months (2 1/2 years). Rebirth was developed over 61 months (over 5 years).

Third. Rebirth is a linear, more progressive game with a greater variety of levels - Sahara, military fort, dark world, etc. Bunker is an open world.... but the world is small, it's just one level - an underground bunker where you run from one room to another and have one monster randomly appear here or there. Bunker is just a much smaller game, and of course the game budget was also smaller.
