Yes. It was a playful wager, because Lambert was supposed to go on a mundane patrol (e.g. not dangerous). It turned out to be disaster, and Lambert got stranded, injured and got in grave danger - hence Henri's guilt.
What was supposed to be a playful prank, ended up almost killing his best friend (only for it go get much worse, unknown to Henri at the moment of course, when he gave Lambert the tainted/mysterious water from Rebirth).
Yeah, good question. Must be somekind of rift in the immediate area. Just like the rifts at the start of Rebirth from the plane; merging in and out at random. Honestly I don't have the best bearing in regards Rebirths lore. Have only been reading about it/seen videos. Never played it. Only the Dark Descent, and now, the Bunker. The Bunker attracted me primarily because of the openended gameplay - but it has sparked my curiosity for the greater lore surrounding the series.
Regarding the orb; yeah! That was my first exact thought as well - made me recall the orb from the Dark Descent. Only, it wasn't. Hah. But yeah. I highly recommend "Gaming Harry" on YouTube. His Amnesia lore videos are absolute stellar!
