Unplayable for lower end PC?
Hi, looks interesting and island looks amazing but no matter the settings, even lowest with DLSS (no performance change), game runs below 40FPS all the time leaving more frames reprojeted than rendered, even foveated rendering injection does not help. I know I do not use high end PC, just rtx3060 laptop but I do not have that kind of problems even with other good looking and detailed games like Hubris or HL:A or WD:S&S.

RTX 3060 should provide satisfying results. Changes in graphical settings could also require an application restart for them to apply properly. Worth a try if you have not already.

Thanks for reply, I tried that - 1980x2076 all settings to low +DLSS balanced and it is like 50ms GPU frametime on title/loading screen, in game it is around 8-11ms on GPU but drops frequently from 72 (my limit) to 40+ fps despite frametimes looks ok, there are lot of CPU spikes on graph (I am using fpsVR monitor). I checked everything on nvidia control panel even because I thought it might using intel GPU, but not. Maybe i7-11800H CPU is not enough, don't know, I will try this out someday when I buy beafier rig but I think required minimal specs on page might be to low. BTW - I am using Pico Neo 3 Link - closing hands with grip and trigger buttons don't work.

Sorry, but 3060 laptop really is total garbage. You'll need a desktop gaming gpu - or an extremely fast gaming laptop.
I'm getting 80 fps in 80 Hz with my desktop RTX 3090 and DLSS Quality - all other settings at Epic.

Thank for letting me know, so you mean I suppose to buy RTX3090 desktop to play one game? Sorry for irony but other VR titles work good or decent at least. 80FPS on desktop 3090 is really low framerate so definitely this game is very heavy. Cheers

Hi.
You absolutely don't need a beefy desktop PC to play Bootstrap Island. One of our main test machines is a laptop with a RTX3070 and it runs very well on this laptop both with Quest2 or Valve Index, although sometimes some frames are reprojected. We suggest trying the DLSS Performance mode and tweaking other settings, maybe also lowering the resolution in SteamVR settings to get a playable framerate.
We put a lot of time and effort into optimization and will continue to do so in the future versions as well, so that as many people can enjoy the game as possible.
Also, it's a shame to hear that Pico Neo 3 has issues with the game. People with Pico 4 have reported that the game runs with no issues on their systems.
Hopefully your experience will improve after some tweaking! Maybe others in our Discord server can give you advice as well.

No more tweaking for me, final one was to use foveated rendering from external mod, since it is not working - it is not a game for me to play. Thankfully it was just a demo not a copy to refund. Thanks for that and I aprreciate it.

Sad to hear that. Hopefully future versions of the game run better on a bigger variety of systems. Have a nice day!

will my toaster with a gtx 1080 and I7-2600k CPU be able to handle this?

Hey, good question! Your toaster is indeed quite dated but we would still gladly like to hear your feedback on how it runs the game if you have a chance to test the demo.

The game ran a little laggy on epic graphics but dropping all of it to medium and low allowed me a smooth experience, so I suspect with a little more optimisation it will be totally fine for my toaster!

Very nice, thanks for the feedback!

keep in mind the laptop version of any gpu is only about 2/3 the actual power of the desktop versions, and then you have the limited power consumption and cooling to consider so laptops are not good references of vr performance by any means. That said, considering the amount of trees, it runs very well. it would be nice if the distance could be a bit sharper but understandable if it's not feasible without a big performance hit.

Very good point about laptop GPU-s! Do you mean with "distance could be a bit sharper" that the the objects further away are more pixelated? We suggest you test out some upscaling options and anti-aliasing in the graphics menu settings, DLSS and TAA give a much more softer and realistic look to the game.
