Bootstrap Island - Performance Guide
Hi!
Bootstrap Island is a PCVR only game, with realistic graphics, dynamic day/night cycle, open world, thousands of interactable physics objects, thick foliage etc. While performance and optimization are top priorities for us, there are things we cannot control. So we wrote this guide to help you get the most out of the game.

Check if your PC meets the hardware requirements
Please find the hardware requirements on Bootstrap Island's Steam page and ensure that your PC is similar or better. Ensure that you have all the newest drivers.
Note that laptop GPU-s are often much weaker than their desktop counterparts.
While having the game installed on a SSD drive is not required, it might affect performance.

Check your SteamVR and Oculus settings
Ensure that your SteamVR and Oculus settings are in line with your PC specifications. Most important settings here are resolution (any number above 100% render resolution negatively affects performance) and refresh rate (higher refresh rate needs more powerful hardware). The same goes for Virtual Desktop settings, if you are using that. Note that newer VR headsets have very high screen resolution and they require better hardware to run well.
We have also had reports that SteamVR Home is causing issues with some players so we suggest to turn that off.

Check your in-game options
Press B (or corresponding button) in-game to open the in-game menu (this will pause the game). Navigate to "Settings" and "Graphics" and tune the options there. The following options will have the biggest impact on performance: DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling - only available for Geforce RTX graphics cards), Render Resolution (only available when DLSS is off) and View Distance. We have concluded from tests that other settings have minor effect on performance, so we suggest to keep them on High.

Wireless casting may affect performance
If you are using wireless PCVR, ensure that your connection is fast and stable. Check your wireless settings to improve performance. Performance issues might feel worse with a wireless connection.

Third party software may affect performance
If you are using streaming/casting software, fps counters, third party color correction etc. it might affect performance. We cannot provide support for third party software and we probably haven't tested the game with these specific programs, so use them at your own risk!

Report your problems
Please write to us if you need support - support@bootstrapisland.com
Optimization and performance remains our top priority. We regularly update the game based on user feedback, fix bugs and find new ways to optimize the game. However, we can only fix the problems that we know about, so please let us know about them. You can also check our discord - https://discord.gg/vxZUweU8QY
If nothing helps, feel free to refund the game. We hope you will be back!

We hope you have a great time on Bootstrap Island!

Nice guide, I have exactly the recommended specs with an RTX3080, i7-10700 and more than enough ram at 64GB - have a Rift S, Quest 2 and Quest 3 to try it on - I expect I will get the best performance with the Rift S, but best graphics on the Quest 3 although I might have to reduce the graphics settings to allow for the larger resolution... :)

You can just reduce the render resolution on Quest 3. But all three are very good headsets.

I'm playing on Quest 3 with cable link
Ryzen 7 3700x
RTX 2080 TI
16 GB Ram
SSD M2

It works very fluid. Just some quick lags

I have a 4090 and have gotten a crash due to video memory twice with DLSS on quality and most settings on high. Quest 3 with VD.

Are you using an Intel processor? This seems like a very probable reason - https://www.radgametools.com/oodleintel.htm

Cool game, especially if you loved reading Robinson Crusoe as a child! Is it possible to make the island more picturesque and realistic? The volcano doesn't look believable. I would like to explore the wrecked ship and find things for survival there. Build a home and even make a vegetable garden. And you can have two game modes - with and without predators, where the only problem will be with food and water and diseases. I want to relax and craft. And you can live on the island to your satisfaction :)

You can explore the ship. I got to it from the water. I hugged the edge of the rocks.

Turn off AA or put DLSS on quality.

Hey, guns should work at night. Maybe they somehow got all wet? There was also a bug with the gun that we fixed in the latest update.

Hey, our first suggestion would be to lower the resolution/framerate from SteamVR or Oculus settings and see if that helps. Also try to turn off SteamVR Home.
