Curious
So far, the game looks interesting, and I'm sure there is lots to explore. However, from what I've seen so far, you can basicaly open a coconut, start a fire, and shoot a flintlock pistol. Mechanically speaking, what else is there to really do? Can you make anything? I assume that it'd be limited, but is there anything to craft at all? Or is the game basically a coconut drinking simulator?

the aim of the game is to live as along as you can and unlock all items. This is my opinion

there's no crafting atm, the game is basically break coconut simulator for the time being. the devs said they were going to add crafting at some point, but all you can really do right now is: survive long enough to unlock the rest of the items you find in chests, and get a permanent pistol holster.

nothing else in the game unlocks anything as far as I can tell, so currently your playthroughs are mostly going to be: spawn, find coconuts, break open the starting chests, make fire. wait through night, move to different area with more wood drinking coconuts along the way, make a new fire, rinse and repeat until you get bored.

the pistol is the only chest item worth anything because you have to carry literally everything else in your hands. you can't climb ropes one handed so if you're carrying a bottle or a musket around you gotta leave it behind.

you can open clams, kill crabs, and harvest meat from corpses, mainly the beasts at night and some pink birds for food. you can literally survive off of nothing but coconuts if you keep finding them though.

the game isn't very feature complete right now so....yeah, but assuming the developers stick with it, we should have a solid vr survival game in like 6 months or so

You can do a bit more than that. Do you really want me to spoil it for you and lay everything out? I will if you want me to, but I think you're better off buying the game, supporting the developers, exploring the island and finding things out for yourself.

Agreed ! This is a truly beautiful game... the devs have worked on it for a long time, small team of very talented programmers.... for me peaceful mode is the ultimate and is now my goto game for that in VR (just wish i had more time to do so, hopefully this weekend), if peaceful mode isnt your thing then the rogue like part of the game is there for you, not really my thing though but some ppl really enjoy that. The Devs have stated they will be working on this for along time to come, and the rate of the updates i'd say it'd be progressing faster than we think, they have the solid foundation sorted, so it shouldnt be long be they add more content.... this game even as it is now, is my new favorite VR game and highly recommended to buy, esp as it supports the devs to keep going... even if they suddenly stopped, as it is now it'd still be one of my favorites, and i'd pay double the asking price happily... im even exploring upgrading my PC, i have a 2060super card which runs it fine, but id imagine it'd look/run even better with a 4090, just wish they wern't so expensive!

I appreciate this reply the most, I will wait to get the game then, I do think it looks interesting enough to get, because I'm looking for that nice next VR survival. This was right up my ally, but I love crafting and building a lot more then I do exploring, so probably better to wait till more is out, then to end up losing interest and wanting a refund or never playing the game again.

normally i'd agree with this sentiment, play the game and find out yourself so you can get the best experience with it, but this is an extremely early access VR title that doesn't really have a game play loop yet.

The bare essentials and framework for a truly amazing VR game are here for sure, but it's hard to get people to jump on the early access battle-bus when so many people have been burned by open-world-survival games in early access, and I think encouraging people to drop money on what is basically a gamble on whether or not we get a finished game is jumping the gun a little.

I get it, you want to see the game succeed, so do I, but encouraging people to buy a 2-4~ hour tech demo isn't really the way to go about it.

I've already put 8 hours into the game. Think I got my $25 worth? I've spent more on games that I've gotten less out of. It's not a tech demo. Sorry, you have no idea what you're talking about. I could come up with quite a list of things to do at this point, I was asking the OP if he really wanted us to spoil it for him.

good on you then for getting blood out of a stone, but there isn't 8 hours of content here. You can do the same thing over and over for 8 hours and have fun doing it, but not everyone is gonna feel that way, and with how the game is set up at the moment, you're going to be doing a lot of repetition very quickly.

Sure, you can look for things to do and I'm sure if you cut your list into small enough pieces you can write an entire paragraph on things you can do. But beyond exploring for content that doesn't exist yet and surviving simply for a leaderboard, the truth is that there really isn't much here to do.

Tech demo or not, this game has a solid foundation to stand on, but like how a building isn't a building without walls, a game isn't a game without game play, and the devs just need to build a good game on that foundation.

You're free to feel however you want about what I think, but I honestly believe it's a fairly safe bet to say most people wouldn't be okay with dropping $25 on a game so lacking in content.

also, don't apologize, you aren't sorry.

I'm so glad that my question could be turned into a pissing contest for one, and an attempt to be civil for another.

Don't mention it.
