Why does this game even still need EA app to run?

Didn't EA give up on it anyways? I just bought and downloaded the game and the bloody thing won't even run because EA servers are down.. Should I just refund or is there a way to play this game still?

not only does this game not launch, but it leaves 8 EA background processes running

Today it seems to be working, but I still find it ridiculous it has to go through the EA servers even with online features disabled, just to launch the game and play it as a single-player.

I got it working, it has to do with the EA app having trouble signing in with your steam account, but it won't tell you that, thats why it crashes on launch. Open the EA app, it will ask to login, select login with steam icon, browser will launch with steam sign in, go ahead and login, it will ask if you want to share your steamID with EA select Allow (green button), then EA will send a verification code to your email and ask you to verify login with code, put in the code, it will say successful close tab, close the tab otherwise it will not go through, tab closed EA app signed you in, you will see on the left hand sign of EA app WILD HEARTS, leave EA app open, go to steam and launch the game, voila.

I can safely tell you that was not my case, it was just an EA server outage at the time of me making this forums post. I launched the game the following days and it launched no problem, without doing any of what you described.
