Crash to Desktop Issue
Hi all,

Anyone else getting random crash to desktop issues?

Looking through Windows system logs yields no errors, however application logs show that the game has a fault.

Faulting application name: WILD HEARTS.exe, version: 1.0.1.0, time stamp: 0x640709bb Faulting module name: WILD HEARTS.exe, version: 1.0.1.0, time stamp: 0x640709bb Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0000000003d9c30e Faulting process id: 0x0xD54 Faulting application start time: 0x0x1D95F71388C5AA9 Faulting application path: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\WILD HEARTS\00_game\target_origin\ex\WILD HEARTS.exe Faulting module path: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\WILD HEARTS\00_game\target_origin\ex\WILD HEARTS.exe Report Id: 5bec3cc3-0685-4567-a32e-ddf0fa7b5227 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:

Are there any logs for the game itself?

Running Ryzen 5600x, 32gb RAM @3200mhz, RTX 3060
Nothing overheating, other games play fine, clean Windows install, and clean GPU driver reinstall with the use of DDU.

My laptop (Ryzen 6900HX, RTX 3080) and primary desktop (Ryzen 5800x, AMD 6750 XT) do no have this issue.

RESOLVED

Exception code: 0xc0000005 is an Access Violation error. You could try disabling XMP in your BIOS and running your RAM at stock to see if the game doesn't like the RAM OC?

Maybe this thread can offer some help. https://www.resetera.com/threads/forza-horizon-4-pc-error-0xc0000005-preventing-many-users-from-starting-the-game.72412/

Thanks! I'll give that a try. I moved the game's directory from D: to C: thinking that may clear the access violation, but the crash still happened. I'll give the XMP a rest and report back.

One thing to note is XMP is enabled on my other machines and they don't experience any issues. It's possible my RAM sticks aren't seated properly as well, so I'll reseat them.

Update
That didn't help. 20 minutes in and CTD again. How frustrating. I will continue to keep digging in the meantime.

Unfortunately I still have not found any fixes for this. I've tried moving directories, updating permissions, running as admin, reinstalling Windows, reseating RAM, trying different RAM, changing XMP profiles, reinstalling the game, changing clock speeds on CPU and GPU, upgrading to a high speed HDMI cable, changing refresh rates and resolutions, turning off overlays, tuning Windows optimizations, as well as reinstalling graphics drivers. It seems the game just doesn't want to work on this machine.

As mentioned, my other devices can run this game without issue with the exception of poor optimization and performance. It can even run hours at a time, join and host multiplayer sessions, and advance through story missions without any crashes. I have run out of ideas at this point.

Quick update, I resolved this it seems.

I tried a few more things such as changing audio to English since that worked for some, updating UAC and running it as admin, and enabling network access on private networks. All of these failed.

I then went back to RAM. Looking back into the XMP profile, it seems my profiles are somehow busted, or my motherboard doesn't handle 3200mhz well. I changed the XMP profile to auto, and manually set the speed to 2800mhz. After playing the game for about 4 or 5 hours straight, I had no crashes. It is safe to assume this issue is resolved.

Thanks for all your help!

this game is an abandoned baby in the forest, thanks at first for providing the steps you have done, I've spent hours fixing it but theres no solution it seems, but the issue is for sure that the RAM can't take tasks anymore and shutdowns a whole lot of processes in response, this can be frustrating especially when you setup camp and look into the world, I think I can play around 3 hours sometimes more or less before crashing which isn't a big deal but in total I should have lost progress of around 10 hours in total by now which can be draining depending on what is lost, I still wanna thank you for letting the steps here you have done
