Did you try going onto property->controller and then enable the controller you want to use?

Well damn. Okay. When you launch Wild Hearts and it loads into the main menu where it says to "Press any button" hit enter, then alt tab back to steam and then tab back to Wild Hearts. I had that problem where no matter which button I pressed on my ps4 controller it won't do a thing.

Having the same issue with my PS4 controller. It works in other games, even Windows (can select items in the start menu), and it's clearly active in Wild Heart's properties, but it's just not recognized.

Not sure if the game even has PS-style buttons. It might if it would recognize that I have anything connected.

try going to steam settings-then controller-then general controller settings-then check the play station support box

Maybe that's what Haru meant. It did work, never thought to check because I've never had to actually go there for the... 5-ish years I've had this PC. I tested MHW before I saw the notification here and made that change, and MHW just worked, same as every other game. After changing the setting, the controller light turned on in Wind Hearts, and everything seemed functional.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be PS-style button icons, which is disappointng. Worse, it runs so poorly even on minimal settings that getting the controller working is a very minor victory. Basically like an unoptimized Switch game, after everything is turned down.

Thanks for the help, though. Hopefully the game becomes playable before my refund window closes.

PC: use the Tool Rewasd (7 €/$) to manage all your devices. Absolut brilliant tool.

to get a ps4 controller to work wireless, you need to have steam input turned on. otherwise, turn off steam input and it should work plugged in, with ps button prompts, steam input will not have them

This seems like a nice app, but it also seems to do many of the same things as steam input, which is free with Steam. Even if it could trick Wild Hearts to recognize my PS4 controller as what it is, I'd effectively be adding $7 to an already overpriced game to workaround an issue that other games don't have. :/

Have you personally confirmed this to work? Because I'm getting very different results, and some admittedly quick googling (gettin sleepy) shows I'm not the only one.

Wired, with steam input off, resulted in the controller not working, though it did light up. I saw some mentions of disabling steam input through big picture settings, which I tried, but that changed nothing. I don't use big picture anyway, and it seems like game settings should override any general settings.

Wired, with steam input on, resulted in the controller working, but with Xbox icons. And also me being stuck with a wired controller.

Wireless, with steam input on or off, resulted in the controller working, but still with Xbox icons.

This seems like a Wild Hearts-specific issue. If it's this inconsistent about detecting controllers, and that's the only way to determine which icons to use, I may be stuck until they acknowledge and address this.

Offering the option to select which icons are used, which was done with MHW and MHR, would work, but they didn't.

Appreciate the suggestions, though.

i use a ps4 controller too, you have to turn off the controller, them disable steam input, plug in the controller then launch the game im just living with the wrong prompts because i like wireless and i like having circle be confirm more than having correct prompts

I know this was a while ago, but I just had this problem and the thread popped up. I found that if I launched the game through EA it would not recognize my gamepad, no matter what I did BUT, if I launched through steam I could use the gamepad. Hope this helps someone!

I recently changed my power management settings on Nvidia control panel and subsequently my controller stopped working. I done some digging and apparently messing with power management settings may affect your pad. Which was the cause for mine, changed it back to default settings and it worked straight away. Just another avenue to try.
