The tracking is real...
Seriously, as much as I like the game... but the combat can be atrocious at times.
Some things are way too finicky, from the tiny stamina bar that won't give you any information at all, to the terrible climbing in order to destroy the blue spots.

But the tracking and overall attack patterns of the monsters is just take the cake.
I haven't failed a mission yet, being in the second location while having defeated 3 monsters there... but every single battle was basically trading blows with the enemy.
No matter what attack the monster starts, I sure as hell won't get away from it.
And when I'm attacking, it's mostly that the hitboxes work in my favor and the enemy misses by a hair, so I get a full hammer combo in.

Monster hunter baraly has tracking.
The monster tracks you, starts attacking and the tracking is basically gone till the next attack.
But here, a monster jumps in the air, makes some sort of buttslam while adjusting the direction in midair.

Just as information, I have plenty of experience with "Monster Hunter" and "Dark Souls" and wouldn't call myself bad at gaming... especially since I didn't found "Elden Ring" all that hard.
I know "Wild Hearts" has i-frames, somewhere... but you have to utilize them for every single attack.
Remember "Tigrex" or "Diablos" with only full force full body attacks?
Now imagine every monster in like that... with insane amounts of tracking for everything, so you have to dodge through them every single time.

Kingtusk is a good example of ridiculous tracking. He'll turn on his tippy toes to smash down onto you. Dodges are supposed to have a decent chunk of i-frames, but its a gamble whether they work or not due to the janky frame rate.

Go under his back legs, he can't 180.

I have the impression (not saying you are doing it, just based on what I've seen from over 40 online sessions) that people are taking this game like Nioh, Devil May Cry or something, attacking nonstop with little to no pause for the boss' turn to attack.

I agree the amount of tracking is really intense, but I don't think it's that atrocious. I find the combat and challenge in this game a lot more rewarding, and that's coming from a Bladed Wagasa user, simply one of the hardest weapons to use, at least in early game. I feel you about the whole tracking; I too have over 1k hours in MH (MHW, MHR PC & Switch, 3DS), but we have to start separating this from Monster Hunter, it's a different game that requires different stance and approach.

Good for melee, I typically use bow. Gotta dodge and pray.

Yeah, I know it's different... I'm just kind of frustrated... ^^"
And no, I don't storm in villy nilly and pray for the best... I try to look for openings, than I get an attack in... suddenly, the opening is gone, I'm to clese to the monster and will dodge his next attack only by some miracle.
Tusnayoshi Feb 17, 2023 @ 7:26pm
What weapon are you using? I think it is a matter of getting used to it. I understand you're frustrated, but I believe that at some point the right set of your own skills will start making things more balanced. We're all there getting used to the game coming from MH. Give it time :mhwhappy:

So far, I tested out every weapon except the bow and now I'm stuck with the hammer.
But it doesn't matter which weapon I use, since it's hard to dodge attacks while just running around like a headless chicken without attacking.

The Katana is a bit too much repositioning, the Nodachi eats stamina, I can't be bothered to learn every delayed attack to make the Umbrella work... so the Hammer it is, since it doesn't rely on a special meter that is up as soon as the monster leaves and the stamina management is kinda ok... I think... I really wish I could see the bar clearly.

But yeah, I try giving it time.
It's still fun when the monster is exhausted and I get like 3-4 full hammer combos in, basically ending the fight since this weapon is so overtuned.
But everything else till that point is healing while chipping away the health of the monster.

Tracking on some attacks can leave little room to dodge but if you finished Elden Ring and Dark Souls, the dodging shouldn't be much of a problem. So far, I found enemies easier to dodge than Margit.
The only reason I get hit is if I'm ether hunting new enemies or trying to use parasol right now, so learning parry while dodging half the stuff.

It's not every single attack that you need to utilise i frames for. I've just finished fighting bunny and his ranged attacks are easily dodgeable without i frames while close melee ones can at times be outrun.

I think the worst offender out of intial 4 monsters so far been Kingtusk as he requires knowing where and when to dodge as well as good usage of gates abilitty to block his charges.

Didn't find a way to dodge charge so far.

Just wait for people to get to higher up bosses and they'll catch on the hitboxes in this game are atrocious stand right in front of a boss and get hit it does no damage. 15 foot away roll still and the boss hits for 3/4 damage. This game will be deader than toukiden in 6 months especially when sunbreak hits console.

Tiny stamina bar that won't give you any information? It's split into two chunks. You can slide dodge twice. You can see it not refilling if you're sprinting around. You can see your abilities consuming it. It gives you all the information you need, mate. Climbing is wonky, though, for sure.

As for the tracking - no, you're just bad at this game. Use the spring. Use the box. They're there for a reason. And stop lying about MH, the monsters track like gangbusters in MH, it's one of the most persistent complaints we've had about it for the duration of the series.

What is this, a comedy post?

If you're ranged, then put the bow on your back, run and slide, you have more iframes that way.

So far the funniest thing to me is getting grabbed out of the air by an attack that was way under me.
Azukaos Feb 18, 2023 @ 2:11am
I've tried every weapons that are available so far until i reached that freaking lava ape but i can't time anything right with most of them.

i frame are mostly non existent on dodge or too tricky for me to attack and dodge quickly like in a MH game, i guess i will probably play bow until i'm geared enough before trying to take some of thoses kemono in melee...
Inuakurei Feb 18, 2023 @ 3:52am
I think the monster attacks are the way they are because we are expected to make sure of the summonable structure things very often. The spring one especially. Its basically a better dodge roll, it even gives you iframes during it. I just find that system too clunky to use as fluidly as they seem to want me to.

what is the difference between "very intense" tracking versus "atrocious" tracking?
