There is no prompt, but the buttons are the same as jumping and latching onto a wall. Some of the monsters seem insanely hard to grab onto though.
I use a PS5 controller and it is RB to grab onto a monster from a jump. It is a gameplay element that is already present from start but they never really tell you about it except for an easily missed tutorial pop up. Fair warning, the climbing mechanics is a bit wonky causes the camera to go crazy when you are climbing across weird spots and as the monster moves you may teleport to a different part of their body. Try to get as close to the blue spot before grabbing with a jump or an off barricade/crate/heli-thingee; though the drain while climbing monsters is forgiving. Like before a monster runs you can grab on and if your stamina is at max you can ride it to the next engagement spot if you are lucky.
Darn... touche. You got me there. Dang it. Well played. Touche.
Not only does it stun them, it also weakens them as per story and mechanics, those concentrations of threads helps power them up. No one is saying break them willy-nilly, but explaining the mechanics of HOW to do it since people aren't in the 3 day's I've been playing. I've done several experiments wearing same gear letting a mob hit me with an attack pre vs. post breaking and post breaking its damage output decreased.
As with anything, it is a strategic decision, but the point (again of this post) is explaining what to do not when to do it as that varies by circumstance and team.
Thank you for attending my TedTalk.
Breaking the points doesn't weaken them though? It doesn't do extra damage, it just breaks the part (Physically.), but the part is considered broken the moment kemono orbs spew from it, to cause it to shine in the firstplace.. Hunter arming it just gives more orbs+threads+heals.
As with anything, it has to be timed right. For example, the golden porcupine thing can be stunned out of it's power roll if you hit it on the nose while it is spinning at the right time.
Because you see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means you haven't met the criteria for it to happen.
Elementary dear Watson, elementary.
Play solo. Let a monster beat on you with several of it attacks, then note the damage.
Then try again, avoid getting hit and break orbs. You will see a decrease in their damage output.
Thank you for attending my TedTalk.
What could of happened is that someone else hit the stunning blow right as you pulled the string out.
The controlls seem arbitrary AF and change with camera orientation. Holding up made me climb down the monster, then i remount since i ran out of stamina and now up made me go sideways.
You have to jump and grab on to the monster like you would a wall. Then make your way to the spot (The glowing part that is broken). The game will change its "Let go." prompt when you are close enough to do it. At that point hold left trigger, your character will yell and reach into the monster's wound, then pull as they push off or let go of the monster. This will give you 15+ thread to build stuff to fight it.
Bro. I DID. I held onto the monster, at least 15 attempts. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ monkey keeps attacking and the camera completely spazzes out while you are grabbed onto it. I grabed onto its shoulder, and without holding any movement direction, so 0 imputs i managed to end on the fist of the monster.
This mechanic only really works on slow enough monsters or i guess monsters that have been tested properly. The monkey... i either grabbed onto the shiny spot immidiately, or i could forget about it.
I agree, some monsters feel like it is impossible to get that grab on. For the monkey there is a small window when he does certain moves. For example, at the end of his slide he lays there for a moment.
