I have mentioned before in different threads. The FPS counter is not reliable. What you see in the corner of your screen for fps doesn't equate to the actual in game play fps. If you follow my steps and if it worked for you. This game will play at 60+ fps even if you locked to 60 fps in both nvidia control panel and in game. I don't know why but it does.
Exactly. :) It all comes down to cinematography as you mentioned as well. Universally, 24fps is accepted as the norm for a “cinematic” frame rate. 30fps is accepted for broadcast in North America, and 25fps is the broadcast standard in Europe. So yeah, anything between 24-30 fps can produce a much better cinematic / dramatic experience. Too bad, that apart from some Japanese devs, they don't use this approach anymore in modern game development. But at least some titles has the built in option to change the movie / cinematic fps between 30 or 60.
finished hunting mr ice wolfy and went down to probably 30 fps, could definitely feel the hit on frames after getting so many in the other areas. of course not unplayable but man it sucked getting low fps in that fight

Looks very playable, but to be fair, you are playing on a MONSTER rig lol and it SHOULD be playing infinity better for you than it is. Video really shows nothing, because Youtube locks the framerate to 60fps max, even if you are pulling 120 fps, I'll still only see it as 60 on video.
Just out of interest, what resolution / frame rate are you and your wife getting?
I'm getting pretty stable 60fps @ 1440p on an 9990k/2080ti/32gb Ram (standard setting)
It's like being impressed a Ferrari can just about hit 60mph driving down a freeway. (hint, I'm not impressed)

*FPS BEFORE patch was ~18-50
*FPS AFTER patch is now 60-90 (I have my fps capped to 90 for wild hearts in NVIDIA control center)
*FPS LOWS in worst case scenarios i drop to about 45 which is still playable but definitely doesnt feel good compared to 60+ even in multiplayer
And I have used an amalgamation of community "fixes" and recommendations for my current settings within the game, nvidia control center, and specifically for my RIG.
After I shot the video, I realized my gpu power was set to 75%. Also, my wife's 3080 runs smoother than my 4090. So I don't think it's the gpu.
She runs exactly my settings. I also shot this video on an iphone 12 pro max 4k60. For some reason it hasn't uploaded 4k playbacks. I locked the game at 60 but it definitely feels like it's playing higher at 60 fps.
I use MSI Afterburner just to keep my temps in check, but it does show my CPU gets used 50-70% and my GPU 70-90% used. It monitors my FPS accuratly.
Just simply a really badly optimised game (horrible engine too really)
Digital Foundry not huge fans of the performance either really :-
