$40 price tag?
while im happy its not $70 like other modern games, im scared that not being $60 or even $50 indicates this game is super short? or maybe in a worst case scenario, they dont actually have faith in it selling.

i watched the full documentary and saw how much love and care was put into this game and i've been waiting for it since its first reveal. do you guys thing the price tag may indicate bad news, or just a double A sleeper hit?

edit: since i keep getting comments, im gonna clarify and say i look forward to the game and i preordered it. yes yes dont preorder games and all that jazz, but im very excited for this title. por favor dont try to needlessly rain on my parade.

Good lord, are we really at that point now? Why isn't the game 70 bucks? It can't be all that good if it's only 40, right?

Price tags mean nothing at all about a games quality but with a price tag come expectations and comparisons to other games in the price range.

I'm with you on the "price doesn't mean that a game is bad" thing (Vampire Survivors, Balatro, Valheim, We Love Katamari Reroll, Hades, etc.) but there is still something that is undeniable: this is a game that not a ton of people asked for... Even though I'd say that this IS the right way to include more diverse characters in video games (creating new stuff instead of gender/race swapping established characters), it's still thin ice if the game you're making is not something that people are begging for...

How do we figure out what people beg for? Well, sadly, I'm not gonna pretend that I'm an all knowing gaming guru; I don't know what people beg for, but I think that this is literally a job (like, figuring out what the demand looks like), and it's not my job. If someone convinced this studio that this was totally what gamers were looking for = I'd have a few questions for that person...

"How do we figure out what people beg for"

Its simple. They just have to make a good game lol. this isn't one however. On top of that its in an oversaturated market full of better titles for cheaper, equal or slightly higher price. Doomed to fail, just like Concord.

Also, this game is made for the modern audience. Its DEI/WOKE slop that isn't made for you or me. Sweet Baby had their hands in and they said they dont make games for "white males" and Compulsion Games Community Manager Katie Robinson Claims “I Hate Gamers” After Previously Claiming “White Male Gamers Were A Mistake”.

So yeah. They dont care if its a game people want cause usually they get funded by governments they convince or some DEI programs.

i played the game and i thoroughly enjoyed most of it, i for one think its a good game, can you explain why you dont think the game is good, preferably without needing to invoke any of your anti woke rhetoric

Sure, the woke stuff is just the cherry on top as well as the staff and mind they had while making this. Its not rhetoric but a fact what I wrote or do you think this game financed itself through sales?

Its bad because:
-> You fight the same few enemy types for hours and hours in what could be described as the most basic combat with no variety.
-> You have generic bosses with entirely unfitting Disney Musical music (WTF) that is so incredible out of place I've never seen in a game ever before, check out Gwyns theme in Dark Souls it was epic and meaningful.
-> Platforming is basic and is just a bunch of copypaste (wowow wallrunning never seen before)
-> Puzzles are literally for babies and are neither smart nor require any thinking or analytic skills.
-> You can get any other Souls-like on the market for less, equal or a slighter higher price and they all offer more. (Any Dark Souls, Khazan, AI Limit, Elden Ring and so on)
-> They couldn't afford to make animations with more frames.
-> 40€ for 8H at average gameplay time is pretty bad.

Overall it adds absolutely nothing to the genre and for this price you can grab any other Souls-Like and have a better experience in every aspect.

Its basically the same as with other woke games like Veilguard or Avowed - They are far inferior than other products in the price range or their predecessors. Veilguard is the worst Dragon Age that has nothing to do with it, Avowed is literally worse than Oblivion since in Oblivion NPCs have a life while in Avowed its all fake and lazy. These just aren't good games.

instead of tackling your point 1 by one in what will obviously turn into a semantics battle, all i'll say is that i played the game all the way through and i like what it provided to me, it has its weak spots like combat but it has its strengths with its story and presentation, a perfect 7/10, and by the way you talk i can tell nothing i can say will change your mind so all i can say is im sorry the game didnt give you what you wanted

I think it's actually the opposite, I think the price is so low because Microsoft has faith in it, they're not trying as hard to recoup costs by charging much much less. And word of mouth has been crazy strong for it, hell it's definitely not as short as people claim unless you're really breezing through it and don't take time to find all the notes, upgrades, drinking in the world. I'm about 5 hours in and I'm only on chapter 4 of 14. The story's emotional nuance has been fascinating to watch unfold, I don't think you'll regret your pre-order!

though if i can throw just one more question out there, i notice you keep bringing up other souls like in comparesion to this game and its got my head scratching because unless i missed it, this game was never advertised as a souls like at any capacity, nor does it play like one from my time playing souls-likes, like kazhan for example, is there a source where the devs stated its a souls like or what?

I would wait for non-biased reviews to see how long it is if I were you.
Never pre-order games if you're unsure of anything that might concern you. =)

For me the biggest concern is that framerate, which to my understanding is a deliberate artistic choice from the developers. I got a mild headache and eye strain just from watching the trailers, so there's no way for me to play this game if there's no option to turn that 'artistic-choice' off.
Time and reviews will tell.
If that's your only thing, then as the devs said, you can turn it off. It's not a frame rate thing, it's actual stop motion animation. Your character moves the same way a character in a stop motion movie does, it doesn't affect gameplay frame rate (game still plays at 60) but it does mean that your character has slower animation cycles when going through out of combat movement animations and such because there are so many more frames of animation. But yeah you can turn it off in the settings along with millions of other tweakable settings if it causes problems for you, but if it does I would suggest watching a cutscene before you decide to buy this since those cannot be turned off, and are entirely stop motion so that might also be a problem.🫡

Oh let me jump back in: I don't know about the quality of the gameplay, but it certainly is not a very "generous" game (people finish it in 6 hours).

Unless you're some kind of speedrunning god:
You can't finish Hades 1 or 2 in 6 hours
You can't finish Valheim in 6 hours
You can't unlock every character in Vampire Survivors in 6 hours
You can't finish Cuphead in 6 hours
You can't finish Hylics 2 in 6 hours

So, you know... Combine that with the rest of the criticism that this game received because of the behaviour of ONE person that I won't name and you're on your way to your own version of what is now called "The Rachel Zegler effect".

P.S.: "I thoroughly enjoyed *MOST* of it" = yeah, only perfect games go viral. You enjoyed most of it, and that's great, but not all of it? I enjoyed ALL of the games that I mentioned, except maybe Hades 2. The weapons were bad/boring when it came out, dunno if they're better now.
Yea that's why i gave it a solid 7/10 it's a good game that has its flaws in enjoyed the platforming and storytelling but the combat was lacking

Also and I know I'm in the severe minority when I say this but I don't mind a short game as long as it's good, I rather pay 40 bucks for 10 hours of having a good time than 40 bucks for 100 hours of something that may have more content but is just a ok experience, but again that's just me

I'd say you're probably very generous with that 7, but you've explained your way of thinking so I won't try to extend the debate; I think that it's fair.
