How are you supposed to recruit Tir in S2. Is there a time limit?

As the title says. I noticed Tir and Gremio in Banner Village around the time I defeated Luca. Gremio wouldn't let me pass in typical JRPG trope fashion(Main protag has to have an overbearing, agency blocking guardian figure dictating your actions...i.e Nanami).
Figured I'd have to maybe wait a bit longer till later in the story to recruit him. Went back to Banner Village after the Tinto events, and he's not there, nor can I find him anywhere in the game world. The Kid in Banner Village(Ko?) no longer mentions him either.

What happened? did I miss him for some reason? Is this supposed to happen, and he joins later? I heard you could recruit him if you loaded a Suikoden 1 save.

I appreciate the help, but I've tried that already, unless I'm missing something else. The kid that looks like me just repeats, "Hey, hey! Have you met General Riou?! Well, have you?" over and over.
That and Tio and Gremio are no longer up at the fishing spot.

He appears after defeating Luca. And to recruit him you had to import a save from S1 upon starting S2. That save had to have all 108 stars of destiny recruited.

Because i still don‘t know if this affects Tir in S2….

Which save did you load?

The one, Gregminster blue Orb- before the final boss (like in the psx version)

Or, killed the boss, watched the credits, get your chance to save with complete status?

Because, if its like in the old one, Ko‘s dialouge would change, if it works correctly

Maybe my old brain haven‘t well aged, but for McDohl alone- you really needed all? Wasn‘t Ellie the one which took Gremios part if he wasn‘t alive in your old safe file?
But i‘m still far away in S2 storywise, so no idea if this got changed in the remaster…

Talk to the kid. Talk to Gremio. Talk to the Kid again. Go talk to Gremio again. Proceed with the quest.

Yup, you dont need perfect save for McDohl alone.
Gremios alive or not only affects one recipe to be collected.

My steps were
1. Load save you made after watching the credits for S1. It has a blue order when asked to import a save for S2.
2. Defeat Luca and prove you aren't a piggy.
3. Go to Banner Village and talk to the boy that looks like Riou then proceed to talk to Gremio off the path to the right so start the quest.

You have to go back to Gregminster everytime to recruit Tir if he leaves your party so he's not a "real" party member. Despite him not being treated like a real party member he does have unique dialogue during story segments where your party members will chime in so it's pretty fun to see him talk.

Thanks guys for breaking this down for me.

I seemingly done everything accurately, aside from talking to the kid for the second time after speaking with Gremio, so I still don't know why Tio and Gremio disappeared :s

1. I loaded my save file from the post credit save option of Suikoden 1.
2. I went to Banner Village AFTER defeating Luca, and I spoke to the Kid and he mentioned about Tio at the fishing spot.
3. I went there, and was blocked by Gremio.
4. I did NOT talk to the kid again, I didn't realize he was a trigger to progress the quest :s.
5. I left Banner Village to continue the Tinto story events.
6. Came back to Banner Village after defeating Neclord, and Tio and Gremio is no longer at the fishing spot, and the kid just repeats the same dialogue about you(Riou).

Its seems... that by NOT speaking to the kid after immediately talking to Gremio, and then going to Tinto... that I've missed my chance???

The game sometimes disallows recruits during extended story beats, like the college town sections. Maybe come back later.

This was the case! I left and returned at a later time and Tir and Gremio were back fishing and the kid mentioned about getting past Gremio etc.

So completed Suikoden 1. Blue border and all 108 stars. Do i need to have that save specifically in Gregminster? Or can the save be anywhere with the blue border. Or maybe it auto saved after credits and i just dont remember?

It will only let you carry over a save that works.

And it allows either the last save point in the castle of Gregminster or the clear game save.
