I have learned that this performance upgrade will cost $10 USD and I have some reservations about that.
Firstly, I do not understand why this game is presented on Steam as a standalone game when it is actually just a patch and should be a DLC for the original game. This seems illogical to me and it could create difficulties with achievements, progress and downloads. It appears that they are trying to market it as something more than what it is (a new game instead of a DLC upgrade). I believe this was a poor decision and they should reconsider it. Secondly, I wonder why this upgrade costs $10 USD. That seems excessive for what they have demonstrated in their trailer and promotions. It does not look like it has that much value. I think $5 USD would be more appropriate for what they are providing. I would prefer it to be free, but I acknowledge that they need some remuneration for their work.

I anticipate that this move will upset many people for these reasons and others that I have not thought of yet. This could harm their sales for the next The Outer World’s title, especially if this upgrade proves to be unsatisfactory.

$10 isn't that much, they could, if they wanted to, resell the game for $30 or even $40. Plus side is the company gets more money so hopefully they will produce more games so WIN/Win for everyone.

My question is why do I need to give them $10 for something that should be free to all those who already own the game?

Good news... you don't need to do anything. It's just a video game.

In the UK, one site quoted £5 for upgrade cost, I'm happy enough at that price.

Do you even know the meaning of the phrase win-win? The player is getting almost NOTHING for 10 dollars. It should be free and it should of been years ago! Private Division gets more money to send to it's shareholders - none of this money will even go to Obsidian - who are now owned by Microsoft!!!! This remaster was done by Virtuos Games - who have never made a game before!!!

I think that Players who already have The Outer Worlds should get this as a free upgrade not just at a reduced price.

It's a performance upgrade only for console users. This is a cross-gen upgrade of a last gen console game to take advantage of current gen consoles.

This PC release is mainly just extra gravy for the publisher, since it's easy to release work intended for modern x86 architecture consoles, since PC obviously uses the same CPU architecture + the work was done on PC in the first place.
